EA App combined Star Wars BF 2 standard ed. & free Epic Celeb Ed. Won't Launch!

Hi Everyone,

I was forcibly moved yesterday from Origin to the EA app. I was not happy because I've heard about the nightmare problems people have been having with the rubbish EA app. However, I'd put it off as long as possible hoping that the EA app teething problems would be sorted by the time I was forced to move. Read on if you're not too scared...

On Origin I had a standard version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (SWBF2) which I have played for 1000s of hours. It is effectively the only game I play on Origin and EA. I also had a freebie version connected via Epic of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Celebration Edition which Epic gave away a while back. I never played the connected Celebration Edition as it was too much of a pain to log into two different game launchers and I had already earned most of the extra stuff in the standard edition...  Anyhow, yesterday after installing the EA app I could start my standard edition SWBF2 and play it no problem though it did crash a few times. I noticed at the time my two versions as separate icons... the bought Origin SWBF2 and the Epic SWBF2 Celebration Edition. So far so good, right?

However, today I logged into the EA app to play my SWBF2 standard edition but there was only one icon with Epic written at top of the icon. In the 'game hub' it states that the Epic Celebration Edition is an add-on (green add-on tick). This is incorrect as it was a separate complete game on Epic. Remember I had already bought SWBF2 standard edition on Origin.

Now when try to launch the game via the only game icon available either nothing happens, the app crashes, or it attempts to sign into into Epic (like it did when I launched from Origin) and I get the same message of 'Your game failed to launch. An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later' (see attached picture). Naturally, I've waited for hours with no change, and even now tried pre-logging into Epic, uninstalling the EA app and re-installing, installing Origin again and then being forced to install the EA app again. All to no effect as the same 'failure to launch' error message comes up. I have even tried to remove the add-on but there is no option to do that. I've even looked for a way to disconnect the Epic account in the EA app and online website but there is no option for that either!

Consequently, I can no longer play my much loved favourite game. I'm even missing a tournament now as a result.

I've tried navigating EA's help but can't find anywhere to contact EA directly for help or to report the problem. Honestly, I am very angry and disappointed. Can anyone please help? I am desperate to play my favourite game.

Hi How2siege, sorry to hear your having the same issue! I don't have a solution I'm afraid even though my SWBF2 version did swap back to a EA edition for four days and then for no reason swapped to an accessed through Epic version again. It's obviously an ongoing issue with EA's library system messing up ownership and access of games...

For some reason I can now play the game via Epic but this means two game launchers running and you can really see the CPU/RAM system drain. The EA app runs 4 services and takes 30% of my system resources alone, add in Epic and I'm basically spending 40% of my system resources just to launch the game. What a complete load of rubbish the EA app is. Honestly, I can't believe they'd release it without ironing out such basic issues. Contempt for their customers comes to my mind...

Regarding EA customer support I got an email 24 hours after opening my ticket about this issue asking if I wanted to keep it open or they'd automatically close the ticket. I clicked on the link to keep my ticket open only to find there is no way to keep the ticket open!!! So this issue is supposedly closed now because it magically fixed itself before even EA got around to looking at it... what a downright nefarious way to hide the fact they aren't providing support and solutions... just close the ticket down 'automatically' before looking at the problem with no way for the customer to stop them. Presumably so they can provide bogus 'positive' customer service statistics.

Regarding a potential solution other than buying through Epic I'm wondering if somehow the 4 days of playing SWBF2 via my correct EA owned game I got recently had something to do with me trying to fix it. I did an app recovery, cleared the EA cache, signed in different ways (email and EA name), signed in offline and online, etc. I'm going to try this again and see if it resets back to the correct 'stand edition' owned via EA rather than the incorrect 'standard edition accessed via Epic'. All this messing around and lost game time is just further proof never to buy games via EA :/

Yeah, It's a shame. What happened to me is that when I launch the game it instantly opens up epic games and on the ea app it says "Launching game" and nothing happens at all. Even when I log into the epic games client it doesn't show up that I own the game...

I never had this issue when I used the Origin App. it would just originally boost up with no need to have the Epic Games client. It's so stupid how you need to launch the Epic client after downloading it through EA.

Any EA game that needs to be opened via other gaming Clients is just straight-up *. As you stated, this may be an ownership issue between the two companies. Just poorly optimized and running.

Hope it works out in the future for you. I just uninstalled it. no point in having a 60GB game that takes hours to download just for a company to deny or accept any wrongdoings.

Sorry you had to uninstall the game. Maybe that's what they want in a way so that people buy new games? I still think SWBF2 is a great game, especially the Star Fighter section which knocks spots off clunky Star Wars Squadrons. If Ea, etc, wanted to make a lot of money they could spin out the starfighter section of the game with a new adventure and level editor and it would probably make tens of millions if not more for very little effort...
