Error Code 721 (Out of Country Data)
I live in the United States and play on Xbox 1.
A few friends and I (scattered across the US) decided to start playing battlefront 2 again like the old days (original battlefront) and things worked great. At least for a few weeks they did but then all of sudden Error Code 721 kept popping for all EA games not just Battlefront. All my other Tom Clancy games were fine but EA games could not login to my account. I am in IT so I know a thing or two about networking/security. I started to troubleshoot.
All forums said the same thing reboot your modem, restart the xbox, open these ports, check with your service provider, etc. For the most part completely useless. I have a unique setup in my home with a firewall and other commercial grade equipment.
Long story short I discovered on my firewall that I had Layer 7 Application policy to block all traffic to and from China that I configured years ago. So something had to have changed on the Xbox Live/EA server side because I could not login to any EA game with that particular firewall rule in place. So either Xbox Live has redirected login related traffic to Chinese servers due to maintenance on US side or something else.
Anyways, thought I would share. Error Code 721 can mean so many things and for a typical home network stuff like the above doesn't matter or isn't a concern.
I will say this though, given stuff that comes in a out of China (hacking, censorship) I am surprised and a little concerned that my gaming data is being shared with Chinese companies for a price and thats why my login wouldn't work.
For those of you that don't know, many companies in the US and other countries take your data (websites you visit, frequency of logins, purchased made) and sell that to firms for a price so they can better sell products and other services to other companies. Your data and so called "privacy" gets used and sold with or without your consent.
Anyways long story but I would be curious if EA would respond. Does US gaming data get sent to China for some use?
Thanks
I have the exact same thing going on, which is how I found your post. No surprise to see that it was posted "two hours ago". I had been having problems with the EA/Origin website all day long. slow load times, weird issues with screens not loading. I am on a brand new computer and testing multiple browsers, had absolutely no luck.
Like you, I'm also in IT and also have a business class firewall that I started digging into and sure enough... same problem as you. I have a Layer 7 rule to block all traffic to China (as well as a bunch of others). Turn the rule off and the page loads just fine and I can access the login screen and other places that I couldn't get before.
I have been searching for some kind of definitive answer for hours, so I'm glad that I found your post of someone experiencing the same thing with this traffic to/from China.
So then the real question, is this legit and EA bumped over to a foreign server or is something MiM and skimming the traffic?
