Game crashing to Desktop without error

Hello,

Recently my game has been crashing straight to the desktop out of the blue. While I'm in game everything is running fine and then suddenly the game closes and I'm on the Desktop with no error message. The crashes don't appear to have anything in common such as something happening in game or after a select amount of play time. I've never had this problem until the most recent update was downloaded and installed. I've already updated my graphics drivers and I've run the repair game option in Origin and the crashing still occurs.

Specs:

Ryzen 1600x

EVGA GTX 1070 Ti

32 GB of RAM

MSI B350 Tomahawk

EVGA 850 Watt PSU

Samsung NVMe Drive (game is installed on this)

Any advice/help for this issue would be greatly appreciated and if anything else is needed from me, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks,

-Killer7502

@Killer75022 Some of this error points to a few things and trying to find correct fix could be some work so dust is ruled out and so is page file this is good. What ram test did you run? As windows ram test is a semi joke test, I have seen it pass bad ram I would like to see you use memtest 86 or for new gen gear I use Karhu ram test best program ever fast and easy but you have to buy this one its under $20- memtest 86 is free . But for now lets hold off testing more for bad ram is not very common for ram to just die and it would make more issues then a game crashing. So lets start with some basic stuff.

Open Origin and make sure this is OFF>>

    Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
    Origin, settings, General

Try this and do all steps please to get you PC cleaned up / find the fix  for your game......

Go download the free version of CC cleaner install it..

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner .... install it and clean your registry I have this program on every PC in the house and use it after adding and removing programs and run it once a week just to be sure said PC is clean.

Next rule out your windows if it gives a error and fixes it then reboot and run it a second time and reboot when its done NO OPEN programs or web pages as it will give false errors ....

Test your windows for errors as a clean windows install does not always make a stable windows. I run this once a week and after every format once all new drivers are in and windows updates is done.

Running SFC does not guarantee the crash will not happen, but it will ensure it is not because a windows Dll or file is corrupted in windows.

NOTE = Run command prompt as ADMIN and reboot PC after its done. No open web pages or programs like steam or Origin or web pages and always reboot after its done.
If you get a error first run then reboot PC ans run it again this tool in windows has saved me from many a format.
sfc /scannow safe for all windows you can copy and past sfc /scannow in command prompt as ADMIN you can just copy and past it in. And REBOOT after each time you run sfc /scannow

After all this is done test your game if it still crashes then go into my documents and cut and past the Battlefront 2 folder to desktop top and start the game . Sadly yes you have to make a new folder / setting up all settings in game  this is just to rule out your game cfg is not making the issue.

    @Killer75022

Try to free up some hard drive space so that you have 2x your RAM free, so...64GB in your case.

Also, check that you have Windows managing the pagefile size rather than having it set to a fixed size:

    1. From the taskbar, search for "performance", click on 'Adjust appearance and performance of Windows'
    2. Advanced tab, click Change button, select 'Automatically manage paging file for all drives'
    3. Click OK and then click Apply.
    4. Reboot and try playing

    Thanks.

Upon checking my paging file settings it seems that everything was already setup correctly as outlined above. I also have plenty of space free across my drives so the computer running out of virtual memory room shouldn't be an issue, let alone it running out of physical memory. Upon trying to play the game again, I was able to play for roughly 5-10 minutes and then the game suddenly closed out again with no error message. The RAM usage at that time topped out at 9-10 GBs system wide.

@Killer75022 Just to rule it out take a can of air and blow out your PC with PC unplugged as dust can do this as well, blow out every part. Also if its not dust as well check your PC event viewer as it should show a error and give you more of a idea how to fix it.

    @2042isNotBF

I cleaned out the filter on my PC and gave the game another run while having temperature monitoring applications open. While playing the game I didn't see any abnormal temperatures coming from my components. Eventually the game crashed again and upon checking Event viewer I found that Windows had ended up terminating the application. I'll post the event viewer error below.

Faulting application name: starwarsbattlefrontii.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5cc6feb2
Faulting module name: starwarsbattlefrontii.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5cc6feb2
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000001e7c586
    Faulting process id: 0x2300
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d50759b9f12a17
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\STAR WARS Battlefront II\starwarsbattlefrontii.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\STAR WARS Battlefront II\starwarsbattlefrontii.exe
    Report Id: 2bcbc637-dfd4-4951-8e18-d8cee59c0343

Upon looking up the above Exception code I ran both a RAM test and a chkdsk, which both returned clean, to rule out either my RAM or disk being the issue. Also I've had no other applications show the same problem of suddenly closing out such as what Battlefront 2 is doing. At this point the only other thing that I could think of trying is to reinstall the game, of which I would like to avoid if possible.

Hi, today I wanna to play but when it prepare to play it crash to the desktop too. I did repair, and nothing... any fix?

  • I am having the identical problem and did everything that has been suggested in this forum, I''m wondering if server to cliient connectivity is an issue.. Its the only thing I can think of,.. I am also running on Windows 11... It can't be my graphics card as I just ran 3D Marks Time Spy with the demo ...twice with zero issues, so I'm wondering if its a connectivity issue... I do have Xfinity''s gigabit connection, but this has nothing to do with corrupted language or disruptions between the client and server...

  • I actually solved the same issue that OP has or had, when I bought my RAM from Gskill, the X.M.P speed and timings are incorrect, keeping the X.M.P profile but changing both the frequency and timings is the answer to solving the problem. I now don't have the problem anymore.
