Game doesn’t open when I hit play

Got BF2 on PC and installed the game. But when I go to hit play the game won’t launch. The application shows up in task manager for a few seconds, but then disappears. And on my status it says “playing BF2” but when the application disappears from task manager my status just goes back to online. I’ve tried deleting the two exe. files (the regular and trial exe in the files), made Origins wonky, so I closed it and reopened Origins and it redownloaded the files. Also tried repairing, that did nothing. Now I’m on Windows 7, and the only game I really play on my PC is SWTOR and some other games on Steam, which all launch fine. I haven’t updated my drivers or even Windows 7 itself in 2 years since, again, I rarely use the PC, and if I do I only play BF2. My GPU is a GT640 from Nvidia, and again, haven’t updated the drivers since 2016 since I found later ones made my PC randomly restart. I saw others have this issue and says updating drivers didn’t help, so I don’t want to have to go through that unless it really is the cause.

Hi, had the same problem recently also on Win7, tried to repair, redownload and reinstall game updated Nvidia drivers and windows update. Those didn't work for me at all.

Thing that worked for me was to uninstall Origin and reinstall it back. Something must have been wrong with Origin program or it was simply old and didn't update properly, as I do not play a lot of games from EA.

  • So I updated my graphics drivers to the latest ones from Nvidia, and downloaded and installed the 22 important updates available on Windows Update, and the game still won’t launch. Still appearing in task manager quick like it’s gonna launch, then disappears. Anyone got any solution?

Hey, @StarWarsFreak212 It could be connected that your GPU is below the minimum spec for the game. Has it ever worked on your PC?

I was going to say make sure that everything is up to date, windows, GPU and motherbord, etc.
