I know exactly what I'm talking about, no BS whatsoever. I've been testing this game since 2018, I know from several different builds how Staggers have ruined this game. One simple case is how Dodges had i-frames for the whole duration back before patch 1.2, and how because of that getting spam locked wasn't a thing if you used the dodge, as a stagger wouldn't cancel your dodge. Nowadays it's still the best way off of being spam locked, but because of the stagger you'll still be punished doing it, and sometimes it'll just cancel your action altogether, encouraging you to spam dodge to succeed.
The worst days were before the stagger cooldown feature, as back then multiple stagger sources would just stagger on top of the previous stagger and you couldn't do anything about it.
Removing the stagger could even cause other issues, I can't be sure, but it would solve a ton of current issues, while also making the game much more fluid, as characters wouldn't be constantly interrupted all the time.
- 5 years ago@RogueZeroRendar Making this game more fluid has maked it much worse all along, I really would not count on removing saber staggers would make it any better, it would only make it even worse, because after that opponent doesn't have any time for counter attack, that would be spam fest all the time. I really liked launch setup, there was time to different approaches, now you don't have any time time, combat is just so damn fluid, you will be saber spammed in no time.

Erm let’s not turn this into a YouTube-comments-console-war zone plz?

The game was better in the early days exactly because it was more fluid, because staggers weren't as common as since Patch 1.2. The game became less and less fluid, that's what happened throughout the years. I'm not talking about troopers or trooper modes only, as between troopers fluidity takes a complete different meaning. But when you talk about Saber Combat (including Saber vs Blaster combat), fluidity is what this game lost the most with the patch updates.
Fluidity means you could go about your business in almost every interaction. You'd be penalised when it was appropriate, but not in a way to ignore or cancel your actions. Since Patch 1.2 though, with the Staggerfest introduced back then and tweaked back and forth to no avail, you get interrupted all the time, more in some situations or with specific characters though, and fortunately nowadays it isn't as bad as it already was during some specific patches (1.2 and Roger Roger were 2 very notorious patches for this reason). But it pales in comparison to how better the game behaved before Patch 1.2.
And the culprit is clearly the stagger. Staggers weren't as strong or as common back then. Maybe Devs thought it was too frustrating for casual players missing most attacks, so they opted to lower the skill ceiling a lot and make this a staggerfest, which backfired spectacularly and made them waste time and effort for the rest of this game's support tweaking this aberration of a system that had Staggers as one of its core features.
So again, combat is anything but fluid, you get interrupted all the time. There's no fluidity in getting interrupted. And that's why spam locks are a thing, why ability cancellation is a thing, why interruption BUGs like with Anakin's HM and Rettribution are a thing. Fluid was this game in 2017 that despite getting spammed and losing health, you could just dodge out of harm and it wouldn't don't work or start to work to then suck you back to the spot you were before, and now dead.
One thing worth noting is how rubberbanding only started to happen a lot in HvV after they introduced the staggerfest. At least that they managed to put in a good state nowadays, but to imagine the years they spent tweaking this just because in February 2018 they made a terrible mistake introducing the staggerfest and never decided to roll back with it.

@RogueZeroRendarRubberbanding and lag issues are way worse in greater modes though.
My most memorable moment there was when I was under sniper fire fire as Darth Maul, used one spin attack and started to use the second one afterwards but then was suddenly teleported back to the spot where I stood before the first spin attack with the game telling me that this sniper had killed me. So according to the server I was somehow just standing there doing nothing all the time. Needless to say, I quit the game afterwards.
Also you'll feel the advantage of people that have the better internet connection than you a lot more in such modes..
