Heroes need to be Generals: Objective Commands/Emotes/Voicelines

Warning! Tangent ahead (skip to the bold below if you want to get to the point)! No matter what changes are made, we will always find ourselves in "unbalanced" matches if no one is playing the objective or coordinating. Absolutely not blaming/shaming anyone, especially because newer players (like we all were at one time) sometimes just don't have a clue where to start on these gigantic, shifting maps (especially when transitioning between ground/ship phases). From what I notice, newer players can hold up just fine (assuming they're coming from another FPS game), they just don't know where to focus.

i.e. I suffered through a painfully short CS round on Theed last night (destroyed our ship with 100% vs 7% ground phase completion) and several players on my team had 50ish kills, but we got demolished... my team knew how to aim apparently, but were clearly aiming at the wrong people lol

Since Heroes are really meant to lead the charge, it would be fitting that they have emotes/voice lines to help direct/guide the flow of battle. Usefulness aside... Heroes just need more emotes/voicelines anyhow. Even if players don't listen it would still be a super fun immersive detail that would add to the overall experience while playing this game. CS feels like a movie sometimes! I end up saving so many videos because it produces such funny/epic/infuriating moments.

When you want to use your hero like a War General... there needs to be some basic emotes/voicelines to help communicate and strategize during combat. Not that continuously flashing your block at allies doesn't get a super vague message across....

Here are some of the "commands" I find myself wanting to use most:

  • Fall Back/Retreat (when you see a huge wave coming)
  • Hold the Line/Hold your Positions (for those choke points that need guarded)
  • Move Forward/Press the Attack (when the momentum is building)
  • Follow Me/Help is Needed Elsewhere (to alert tunnel vision players or when you have a plan)
  • Watch Out!/Get Ready! (ish is about to go down... or you're running and enemies are behind you)
  • This Isn't Working/Change of Plans (needed most on ship phases with multiple corridors)

There should also be ways for Heroes to mark:

  • Enemies
  • Non-objective places on the map like areas with good cover or vantage points***
  • Various objects on the map, like turrets and other map specific weapons/turrets/etc.

I would mainly use these features to direct players' attention to the SQUAD OF DROIDEKAS LAYING WASTE TO OUR REACTORS!!! (don't get me wrong though, I'm one of those Droideka players too...)

Honestly, I never found myself wanting to communicate so bad with players until CS came out. Its such a large game mode, and there is so much to do in it, but it easily crumbles when you are playing against a better coordinated group, or a group that just coordinates in general when you are on a team of lone wolves.

  • Hello there! 🙌

I may be wrong about what you are talking.

But actually, we can target the Object.

    (Like the below photo.)

In this case, I ... as Captain Phasma, said "Defend this objoctive!".

  • @Sati_Sati That is precisely why I want more emotes! lol I mark the objective now as well, but the problem is when players aren't paying attention to the map, or just don't notice the new yellow outline (i.e. CS you can mark the reactors in the ship phase, but players get distracted with the fire fight in the front hallways, meanwhile, the enemy makes their way back and destroys the objectives before any of the distracted players realize/LEARN from what happened).

Sometimes, it boils down to a 5 second fight, and how many players respond in those 5 seconds. I have some success with Yoda's strobe light ability (flashing Yoda's block lol) but there are times you need to communicate things other than Follow Me. There are already so many audio cues in the game (footsteps, hero banter, the voice commands when you mark the objective) so why not add more? I personally love playing with headphones, because you notice all those little details, and you play better as a result. When you can hear how close the light saber combat is, or when you hear someone running up behind you... Even the force abilities sound incredible.

If Yoda dropped in from above, healed you, then said "Come with me, you must!" while you were just out and about making your way to an objective zone, would you not be inclined to follow? Half the battle sometimes is just escorting players to objective zones. What if you are about to give up on a hallway, but Yoda comes from behind saying "Forward, we must push!" and starts blocking enemy fire and walking down the hall? Practical uses, although aware players wouldn't need the audio cue, it would still add to the "scene."

There were a few other ideas I had like differentiating when a Hero marks an objective. That might help people prioritize when they decide on an objective. Especially if there are two heroes playing separate (not running around together), then you can both target different objectives, or rendezvous at another.

WHAT IF!!!!... You can use War General Emotes to communicate with online players, AND TO COMMAND AI!

    • Follow Me: AI will follow you until they die, or until they reach another objective zone.
    • This Isn't Working/We Need a New Plan: AI will seek another vantage point to attack their targeted objective, or attack/defend with another preset strategy.
    • Fall Back/Retreat: AI will retreat and find cover outside the command post they are currently in and continue to attack from the outside until the command post is clear, or until a percentage of occupying enemies have been eliminated, at which point they will automatically begin, and announce that they are going to........
    • Push Forward/Press the Attack: AI will move into an objective zone if they are near, or stop whatever else they are doing and seek the nearest objective zone (this could inadvertently help when AI are stuck in weird parts of the map).
    • Watch Out/Get Ready: AI will reserve their abilities for the next X seconds, only using their guns, melee, and will find turrets if there are turrets available.
    • Hold the Line/Hold your Positions: AI will seek cover and stay in the immediate area, or remain in an objective zone.

Hero Commands are erased when they die, or when another command is received (either by other Hero, or automated programming that overrides commands).
