Welcome to the Battlefront, trooper.
Co-op mode is a good way to get better at the game. This is a mode where you’re playing against the AI and three other teammates to capture command posts; you may also become a Hero. This mode is best played on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, where there is triple and double XP respectively. This way, you can grind for those Star Cards faster.
“Half the time I can't find who is shooting at me, nor can I find anyone to shoot at, but opposing players see me all the time.”
Using headphones and checking your radar is imperative. This game has good 3D sound and the radar is highly useful to locate, say, an enemy hero (the circular outline) (be forewarned that enemies may jam your radar; examples are the Specialist’s Scramble Infiltration, BB-8’s Resistance Backing, Finn’s Undercover Team...)
Case in hand, I used to absolutely suck at troopers for a very long time. Playing lots of Co-Op somewhat improved my trooper play, and it should improve yours too.
“When I get the drop on another player, he turns around and kills me. I respawn at a spawn point and I get one-shotted.”
The enemy player may have either used their radar or 3D sound, as described above, or sniping you using the Specialist class, Leia’s/ARC trooper/ISB Agent’s alt fire. Time your dodges well so you can avoid these.
Hope this helps.

- 5 years ago@FearfulWarpII Thanks, this is helpful advice. I'll start playing Co-Op more often.
