How Can The Developers Turn The Game Into Something Great
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a great game, but with a single fatal flaw that turned it into something more like a mediocre or good game. I personally have been having a lot of fun playing it, with about 20 hours on record so far. I believe that the gameplay, sound design, graphics, and single player story are truly stunning and amazing features, as well as the inclusion of so many hero characters, despite the controversy behind them.
With all that being said, there is controversy behind the game for a reason.
With the introduction of the "Loot Crate" system, the game barres players behind a progressive paywall. You can spend your real world currency, whatever that may be depending on your location, or you can grind for excessive amounts of time gathering credits in order to either buy your favorite heroes, or spend them on random chance Crates which can contain new star cards, crafting parts, and customization options. The main problem I see with this system is the fact that players already paid anywhere from $60 to $80 for this game, investing their money into it to support the developers and play their beloved star wars game, and are still met with micro-transactions that allow them to progress faster through the game, and give them a true advantage over other players.
The fact that you can ONLY use credits on unlocking heroes or spending them on crates is another problem. I might have 20,000 credits saved up from grinding the game and completing challenges, but i cant spend those credits on star cards. I can only spend them on crates that give small amounts of crafting parts, and give me a random chance for getting the star cards I want. This is a huge problem, because it means that players have to not only grind for credits to unlock heroes, but it means that players also have to grind credits in order to play a game of chance, to maybe progress the way that they want to.
Now This is the part of the post where I ask the question.
What would the developers of the game think about a not very complex but LIFESAVING solution for your game? Please reply below, I would love to hear what the developers have to say.
5 Steps are all you have to take, please take them.
Step 1: Remove Crafting Parts. Remove them, as they only make progressing more confusing and boring. Allow credits to replace crafting parts as the currency used to upgrade star cards and progress.
Step 2: Remove credits, Star Cards, Weapons, and any other future game changing items from crates. These crates only make players unhappy, as you can see from reddit and twitter. The best solution to the problem would be to replace all currency with credits, but keep everything else about the game the same.
Step 3: Keep Lootboxes, but make them COSMETIC ONLY. I am very excited about the future customization options for the game, as are a lot of fans. Allow us to spend either our credits on directly purchasing them, or let us try buying loot crates for those skins/emotes etc. If I saw something like a clone trooper skin that I really wanted, or a gun skin even, I probably would be willing to spend money on crates to get it, or would be willing to grind through matches to unlock it.
Step 4: Make Heroes Free!!! The heroes in this game are a huge part of it, and keeping the players behind an in game currency paywall for their favorite star wars characters isn't what I would call a good move from a public relations standpoint.
Step 5: Love the game so much that you will be willing to change! Show the community that when the majority of people want something, that you will listen and do everything you can to accommodate them. Don't try to get away with shady business tactics that you know are anti-consumer, and try defending your shady tactics through vague and unfulfilling reddit posts that only make the community angry.
Those are the 5 steps you should take to making your game a huge success. Thank you to anyone who read through all of this, and I hope that someone out there in the development team sees this. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Aaron
