How to Make Hanger to Hanger Combat Work
I think I remember reading somewhere that the reason you guys aren't making hanger to hanger combat is because it simple wouldn't work for online modes.
Well, I think I have an idea that could possibly work. But in order for for it to work best, it would have to wait for battlefront 3.
THE BASICS:
• two capital ships (obviously)
• 3 squads of 4 of both sides
• lots of AI
• 1 large hanger or 3 separate hangers allocated to a selected squad (including a ship for each member).
• squad spawns in hanger to choose ships.
• enter ships like battleFIELD vehicles
• lots of AI turrets on the capital ships.
• shield over hanger bays preventing enemy from entering the spawn points/hangers.
• squads are given different roles to play eg defensive, attack and infiltration
• capital ship have outside crippling points -kinda like in original battlefront- which open up enemy hanger briefly once destroyed
• one squad infiltrates 1 of 3 enemy squads hangers with a troop transport and fights that enemy squad inside (and AI from both sides) to try and reach an inside crippling point (taking down a 3rd of enemy capital ship health)
HOW IT WORKS:
1. the players engage in space combat after choosing their ships
2. Squads are given their orders
• squad one- attack opposing capital ships outside crippling points
• squad two- defend their own capital ships outside crippling points from enemy attackers
• squad three- kill as many enemies as you can wherever in the space battlefield
3. Once the enemy capital ships outside crippling points are taken down, the squads orders are changed:
• squad one- is given a timer before they are respawned back at their hanger with a troop transport (pilot and gunner positions) and are tasked to infiltrate an enemy squads hanger.
• squad two- tasked to protect the troop transport from enemy fire
• squad three- defend their own capital ship
4. Once squad one infiltrates the hanger, the four players as well as ten AI try to breech the inside of the ship and try take down an inside crippling point.
5. All the while 15 enemy AI try to protect it as well as the enemy hangers squad.
6. This is repeated (but with different squal role) three times.
Also, if a player dies in space combat than they can do instant spawns back into the action, unless they want to change ships, then they would spawn back in hanger.
I think this mode would be really fun and potentially chaotic and would really depend on how well squads play together for the objective.
Eg you might have some players that ignore there objectives and just all go to try and hit the enemy ships crippling points. This might then make the need for the other team to all focus on defence until there kill all the enemies and then go and take the fight back to the other ship. Kinda like tug-a-war or something. And with roles changing all the time to infiltration it would be even more chaotic and tense.
Once you get your head around what I said you may think it could get repetitive as its a repetitive formulary, but isn't that just what every other mode is- repetitive. But if its done with vastly different settings and what not, it becomes a whole different feeling. Eg asteroids floating about everywhere, or have frigates that you have to take down etc.
