What is your issue related to? General
Summarize your bug When you die in Hero’s vs. Villains, if you hit the A button, you immediately get locked out of your current character. At the top of the screen it’s says “starting as a random character”......leaving you absolutely no choice but to choose another one (or just let the timer count down and let the game choose one randomly for you). This is easily the worst bug in the game, as it totally changes the tide of a battle by forcing you to choose characters that you don’t want to use, resulting in more deaths. Prior to this bug, if you hit the A button after dying, you would merely go to the characters page and just stay on your character.....allowing you to continue playing as them if you didn’t actually want to change. It wouldn’t lock you out of playing that character. Please fix. It’s awful.
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? MCCARNEY
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
Can you tell us the date (MM/DD/YYYY) that you saw the bug? It started occurring with the large update with the tanks (either late June or early July 2019)
What time did you see the bug? (HH:MM AM/PM) All hours of every day since the update
In what game mode did the bug occur? Heroes vs. Villains
What is your time zone?
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Just go to hero’s vs villains, pick a character, let someone kill you and then tap A. Hitting A repeatedly will all but guarantee it will happen. P.S. when games are tense and someone dies, it’s almost a gut reaction to hit A to try and get in the game faster. So, it happens all the time.

What do you expect to see? I’d like to see it go back to Prior to this bug, where if you hit the A button after dying, you would merely go to the characters page and just stay on your character.....allowing you to continue playing as them if you didn’t actually want to change. If necessary I can provide video of it happening
Pressing "A" implies you want to change characters. Simply put, do not press A after a death. If you do get caught in the change characters screen, press B to unselect your hero, you should then be able to select any character not currently in play, including the one you were just using. Hope this helps!
- 7 years ago@grimmace2 The only way to access the six second timer that was implemented a few patches ago was to hit "A" or "X" (on PlayStation). Watch the video in the thread. It shows that your workaround doesn't apply.

What I suggested was not a work around, it was being fast. You still have to press A (XBox) to access the change character screen, but you have to be over your current character and press B very quickly to get it to release your character. Then you can change. If you wait too long to press A, no luck. If you wait too long to press B, no luck. You have to do the steps very quickly to get them to register.

You must not have played in a few weeks. Seriously, try that now, or make a vid of you doing so. Your method worked before this latest patch.

I know that pressing A is to change your character...But this is a problem since the last release, and you didn’t used to get locked out. Pressing B doesn’t work because, again, You are completely locked out of the character. The only option is to pick a different character, and that’s absurd. It’s something that needs to be fixed.

I'm relatively new to the game, 2 months. But I have been frequently knocked out of re-using my character in HvV. I know it takes 6 seconds to select them again, but about 20 -30% of the time it locks me out of the character. Is there a permanent fix to this?

Ok, so yesterday I entered online multiplayer to test a few things, and surprisingly I think I triggered this BUG. It was in the heat of the moment, I didn't record it, and I did eventually fix it, but I'm sure I tried selecting my character again after dying and I couldn't.
Thing is, on PC we can select a character by either pressing space or double clicking. When I went back to selection screen after dying, my character was darkened as if I couldn't select him, and indeed pressing space a few times didn't let me select him. But then I just double clicked him and even though he was darkened, he immediately lightened and the game allowed me to pick him.
Next time I do my tests I'll try to always come back to selection screen and only use the space bar to try to get my character back and see if I can trigger this BUG again. No idea what might have caused it though, so I'll still have to rely on the RNG Gods for this one

The only characters it doesn't affect are Luke and Boba because they're in the first space, whatever significance that has. You're able to spam them until they're selectable again within the new six seconds
