As stated in the title the game stucks at "Optimizing shaders" on LAUNCH. What shaders are there before any 3D scene is even on there?

Why does the progress bar fills and then restarts for about 5-6 times (for more than an hour, I could optimize these shaders mathematically by hand for this time period)? It does not suggest any progress. This is a terrible UX. The game used to be running fine before I launched it today (slowly but fine).

  • I tried to reinstall the game (7 hours, thanks for the servers in Europe btw), the first launch is quick, I manage to play a bit and then the second launch is still optimizing those shaders. How is this possible? How is the game running the first time without optimizing anything?

Check if your game is set for DX 12 mode, eternal shaders loading is a common effect of having DX 12 mode enabled.

You can do that ingame, but if you can't reach there there's another way:

    Users\yourusername\Documents\STAR WARS Battlefront II\settings

It may be a bit different on your end, but there's a STAR WARS Battlefront II folder inside the Documents folder, and inside it there's a settings folder. There you must find a file called BootOptions:

Open that file with a text editor (it can be the native and simple Notepad).

Now inside the file check if the line that starts with GstRender.EnableDx12 ends with 0 or 1. If it's 1 change it to 0, and check if now you can launch your game.

    If it's at 0, then it's not DX12 that's causing this unfortunately.

Summarize your bug I never had problems with the game when I installed it about a month or so ago. Now, in multiplayer mode when the shaders are done being optimized, the game crashes to the desktop or its stuck and I'm unable to get to task manager to close the game. I have 2080ti NVidia graphics card, 64GB internal RAM, on a HP Omen Obelisk PC Desktop. I rarely have any problems with any games.

In what game mode did the bug occur? Galactic Assault
What is your time zone? PST - GMT - 8:00
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? See if other HP Omen Desktops are having the same issue.
What happens when the bug occurs? The game either dumps to the desktop or freezes and unable to access Task Manager to close it out. It requires a hard reboot to get back to the desktop.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see a game that works in multiplayer mode.

I've never had issues with this game before and I've played it a few times in various modes. It ran perfectly smooth and the graphics looked great. After optimization of shading it doesn't look as nice as I recall. The game completely freezes after shaders are optimized in multiplayer mode or it dumps to the desktop. I never had this problem and I am guessing recent updates to the game may have caused this glitch. I enjoy this game and want to get back into it. I don't understand how a brand new system HP Omen Obelisk PC Desktop with 64GB of internal RAM and 2080ti NVidia graphics card would have any problems playing this game.
