Yes I do agree with you, the main gamemode of the game is far too linear. I myself am tired of walking the exact same routes on the maps.
On the positive side, the developers have confirmed that a new non-linear gamemode is in the making and will arive in Februari of 2019. This new gamemode will focus on capturing command posts and blowing up capital ships.
That sounds pretty good to me, but I am really afraid they will only add 1 or 2 maps to that new mode, just as with extraction. IMO, the community should push more to get much more maps in that rotation. Just as extraction, the mode is great but with only 2 maps it really gets boring after a while.
Be sure to express your opinion online on the different platforms so the devs can take note.
ATTEs could have been a great change a give player an option to cooperate, it could have been a spawn point for troops and it could have been controlled by more than one player. This mode is just forcing you to go one way in general, not just ATTE. I am glad you pointed that out guys...
