The setting file is in your PC (like "C:\Documents\STAR WARS Battlefront II\settings").
Save files for your single player campaign progress are in the server side...
So you can't bypass those stages.
(... Sorry, it might be a spoiler but there are many "vehicle stages" in that campaign.)
I highly recommend for you to get used to it.
But if that is too painful for your son, please stop it.
I know that pain, I could not even fly straight too...
Now I am maybe proper level but I was lucky.
