Microtransactions are coming back to Star Wars: Battlefront II sources state

You should expect games from Electronic Arts to continue to offer "live service" components and optional microtransactions, the company said today. As part of its latest earnings report, EA CEO Andrew Wilson addressed the controversy surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront II's implementation of microtransactions before doubling down on letting investors know that microtransactions are here to stay.

For Battlefront II specifically, Wilson said the game was "definitely a learning opportunity." EA decided to temporarily remove all microtransactions from the game due in part to the "sentiment and community data coming out of the beta and early trials." Microtransactions are coming back, scheduled to return "in the next few months." However, it remains to be seen how they may be changed. In their original form, players could buy loot boxes that contained game-affecting items with real money.

investors were likely happy to hear that microtransactions are coming back to Star Wars: Battlefront II in the coming months. Given that the game has already shipped 9 million copies (with potentially millions more soon)that represents a massive install base for extra sales with microtransactions. Even if only a very small percentage of players spend money on Battlefront II microtransactions, it could result in a huge revenue swell.

    Micro transactions are ruining these games. Pay 2 Win should not be an option for a game you purchase. You play, get better, and earn rewards.

    If people want the best weapons and abilities from the start then maybe this isn't the game for them as many of us do not want the shortcuts and want a sense of accomplishment. We also want a level playing field. At the very least create tiers and separate players based on card level and rank. then those who spend money to get the best can play in their own tier.

    EA can release DLC and new maps and skins etc, but the progression should not be tied to how much you spend if it is a "complete game" at launch.

    If they want to make money off microtranscations then they can lower the price significantly to $10. A $60 game should be complete at launch which is a lesson from Battlefront 1 in 2015.

    Revenue generators should be tied to added value, not for shortcuts. Expansion packs have worked for years because they are added value and new content.

    I am really surprised they didn't just copy Madden and Fifa Ultimate Team and have packs you open for characters and have a marketplace to sell and trade. Thankfully they did not.

    Games have been using this model and others for decades. Yes decades! Even the mobile apps such as "the Sims". And I do not believe it s necessarily "Pay 2 win" as you describe, because no matter if a character in this game has the best weapon, the best cards, or the best god like advantages, that player is in control on how he / she uses these advantages if any.

    And honestly there is no such thing as a "level" playing field. Because even the lowest card novice if with enough training can defeat a purple card expert.
