Nothing happens when pushing Play with Battlefront II

Edit: stop the presses! I got it to work! After not being able to get Battlefront II to launch, I figured I'd go off and play something else. So I opened up my Epic Games launcher and suddenly Battlefront II started up!

I guess because I had gotten it through that Epic Launcher, I needed to have it running. And since the game launched immediately without me doing anything but just starting up the Epic Launcher, I guess the game had been sitting in the background just waiting for me to do that. I thought just having the Origin client running was enough. Guess not! It sure would have been nice to have something pop up saying " The Epic Launcher must also be running," but oh well, lesson learned.

So all of the below is now no longer an issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The download and installation process for Star Wars: Battlefront II seemed to go just fine. However, when I push play, nothing happens. No error code, no crash, just... nothing. The Play button still just says play and nothing happens. And Battlefront II is not running when I open Task Manager.

I saw a number of web results for similar issues with Origin, so here is what I have tried so far:

  • Start the game by right-clicking on it in the Library and choosing "Play" there instead of just trying to press the "Play" button.
  • Try just double-clicking the Battlefront II icon on my desktop instead of trying to run it from within Origin.
  • Made sure the game itself is up to date.
  • Turned off Origin's in-game overlays (both in the Origin settings and Game Properties).
  • Turned off Cloud Saves.
  • Closed Origin and restarted it using "Run as Administrator."
  • Repair the game (over the course of troubleshooting, I've tried this four times. Rebooted in between too).
  • Cleared Origin's cache as detailed here: https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
  • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Origin.
  • Made sure the PC was up to date (Windows 10 Home Version 20H2, OS build 19042.746).
  • Updated GPU driver (Nvidia GForce GTX 970 running driver 461.09).
  • And finally, the nuclear option: I completely uninstalled and re-downloaded/reinstalled the game. Still won't start.
So basically, I'm out of ideas.

I will say that when I initially downloaded and installed it, the game did run in the sense that the loading screen came up, but I couldn't play it at that time. It stayed up over night but then the next day I had to use my computer for something else so I quit out of the game. I sure do wish I hadn't done that knowing I wouldn't be able to get it running again so far.

My system:
CPU Intel Core i7 940 @ 2.93GHz
RAM 12GB
GPU Nvidia GForce GTX 970
OS Windows 10 64bit
Game install location: SSD, 500GB
