Obi-wan Kenobi Is Coming to Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Ii on November 28

Obi-Wan Kenobi* is coming to Star Wars Battlefront™ II on November 28 with the Battle of Geonosis update**. Today, we’re focusing on the cherished Jedi Master, but if you want an early look of Geonosis as well, we recommend reading up on our fresh interview with DICE’s Senior Level Designer Peter Vesti Frendrup.

How will Obi-Wan Kenobi play in Star Wars Battlefront II? What are his Abilities? What different Appearances will he slip into? We’re serving the essentials to you below – and make sure to dive in and read the latest Community Transmission to learn even more.

Star Wars Battlefront II’s Obi-Wan Kenobi in his default Jedi Master Appearance.

The Legacy of Obi-Wan Kenobi Brought to Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II

The legacy of the fabled Jedi Master transcends eras. He was a member of the Jedi Council, a general for the Galactic Republic, and later, after spending years in exile, mentor to Luke Skywalker.

Of course, Luke wasn’t the first Skywalker taken under Kenobi’s wings, as Obi-Wan trained and fought alongside his father Anakin Skywalker (coming to the game this February) during the Clone Wars. And it’s primarily this chapter of his life that’s inspired Obi-Wan’s representation in Star Wars Battlefront II.

A master of defensive lightsaber combat and usage of the Force, he was also a constant thorn in General Grievous’ side. The Clone Wars animated series veterans Matthew Wood (Grievous) and James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan) are voicing the arch-nemeses, accentuating the history between the two. Make sure to read our interview with both to learn more.

And, as previously covered in our walk-through of how we’re bringing the heroes and villains of Star Wars to life, we’re aiming for the likenesses of their real-life actors. As such, we’ve modelled Obi-Wan Kenobi after Ewan McGregor’s portrayal in Star Wars™: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith™.

Catering to these known traits and characteristics, we hope that players will feel right at home playing as the Jedi Master in Star Wars Battlefront II.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Abilities in Star Wars Battlefront II

Now, even though our hero isn’t arriving until November 28, knowledge is power. So, use the intel below to prepare your mind and strategy.

Wielding his trademark lightsaber beaming with blue, and reflecting his mastery of defensive combat, Obi-Wan’s blocking skills are superior to any other Jedi in the game. His stamina and near perfect defense are joined by powerful, chained melee attacks.

Obi-Wan Kenobi wearing the Robed Appearance***.

Our intention is to make him feel like the general we follow throughout the Clone Wars, where he commanded the 212thAttack Battalion – also coming to the game as Appearances for the Galactic Republic with the Battle of Geonosis update.

This is most markedly referenced through his Defensive Rush Ability, where Obi-Wan rushes forward while swinging his lightsaber, deflecting blaster shots with flawless accuracy and damaging enemies in front of him. When this Ability is active, the player can choose to deliver a final strike at anytime.

Messing with an opponent’s heads is a bit of a specialty of Obi-Wan’s, and this is showcased with the Restrictive Mind Trick Ability. The mind trick disrupts the target’s Abilities for a short time – including dodges! Use it wisely to outsmart your enemy.

Offensively, he can utilize the Force to make an All-Out Push. It’s similar to Luke Skywalker’s push, but Obi-Wan’s version is more focused than that of his future pupil. We’re giving additional control to the player, as holding down the button increases the range of this Ability.

To sum things up, Obi-Wan Kenobi is composed, defensive, and a true master of the Force.

The Appearances of Obi-Wan Kenobi

The noble man arrives with the default Jedi Master Appearance. The Robed Appearance*** will also be available for purchase with Credits or Crystals on November 28. A nod to his time as commander of the 212th Attack Battalion, the General Kenobi Appearance*** will also be available for Credits or Crystals at a later date.

We’re excited to get Obi-Wan Kenobi into players hands and to see him clashing with General Grievous and the other feared villains, starting November 28.

Thanks @DYSPROssium for sharing the short trailer. If you were to watch without having yet played the game you think yeah that looks good Obi Wan vs Grievous, mad Geonosis battle, looks epic. I hope the actual game itself is as good as the trailer for the new update looks.

I can't shake this niggling feeling that come the 28th the trailer will be the best bit and I'll be feeling like why did they waste resources on that rather than getting it all to work properly. EA listen up, the best way to promote yourselves is a game that works properly, I've got friends who are massive SW fans, who returned the game as a result of it functioning like a steaming pile of 💩. Knowing I'm fairly relentless and keep at it, in the hope it will eventually be made to work, they keep asking me if it's finally working and whether they should go out and invest in a copy. I can tell you now just because they watched that new trailer of yours doesn't mean they're going out to invest in the game for the new update. Just means that they ask me and I laugh and tell them that if they felt the need to return it before they definitely should not go and invest in another copy. I only mention this as I doubt very much I'm the only person who could say something similar. Releasing this trailer is almost like a false sense of hope to those of us still sticking at this game. Come the 28th we know the game is still going to be buggy as 💩. I'll be here thinking you money grabbing c u next Tuesdays should have focused more resources on getting the update to make the entire game work properly rather than trying to promote something that undoubtedly will not work as depicted in this trailer. I mean all of GG's abilities worked and even his first saber strike actually connected, let's hope its not just false advertising but I think my scepticism can be forgiven considering the state of the game after an entire year has passed and we still have game destroying, rage quit enducing bugs that have been reported relentlessly for the entirety of the games existence. That's why I doubt Grievous will even work properly after this update, I will be blown away if Obi Wan works properly, I anticipate problems with his force push as force pushes generally have their many faulty moments in the game. EA I can't wait for you to prove me wrong please make it sooner rather than later.

  • Funny how we went from "there's not enough content" to "please just fix existing bugs before new content".

I really do hope that the content hiatus in December will result in actual overall better playability.

I've been playing other games lately, and I went back to BF2 to gather credits for Obi-Wan's arrival, but... Sorry, the state of the game is atrocious. I did not even realise this while I was actively playing and getting used to everything...

I can get over most of the problems regarding trooper and vehicle gameplay, it's mostly okay, every game has bugs. But heroes, man... Heroes are completely broken - that's where the main focus should be, and that's why I'm afraid Obi-Wan will get the same treatment.

  • @felker_s funny you should mention lack of content. I don't understand how it's taken so long for Obi Wan to be released considering all of his abilities are already currently in the game in some form. How much extra work can it be to take Yodas push, Reys mind trick and Lukes dash, jazz them up a bit and hey presto here you have a new hero, that's kinda not got any original abilities he's a mish mash of the existing saber heroes. The only consolation I suppose, is the fact that Obi Wan probably won't be as buggy as Grievous due to not having original abilities but existing ones that do tend to work, even force pushes 50% of the time. Perhaps that's part of EAs consideration also, the fact Obi Wan should have been in this game from day 1 they didn't want to risk him being as poor to play with as Grievous.

Heroes have definitely gotten worse since the last update. Then I also noticed they removed another of my closest ping sites and even though my current ping is still on average only 26ms, the synchronisation seems far worse, getting shot through walls after rolling behind cover, hit markers and kills after dying that weren't appearing during gameplay, phantom lingering melee damage, all have gotten worse, no doubt this is contributing massively to the poor gaming experience with heroes.

  • I watched the trailer and I see how slow Obi-wan is. I have to wonder, if he will have any abilities to compensate for it. Also, the ATTE gunner, prepare for sniper fest!

    @felker_s

I have actually asked mainly for fixing the game, but very little response from both the community and admins here on the AnswesHQ. People seems to be happy that

it kind of works... sad really.

@Rogue_Manda_YT I'm not happy I'd rather they fix the game as they are clearly incapable of doing both fixing the game and creating new content.
