Yeah I suppose this could work but the ST capital ships are not on the level of the PT ships. They don't have hangars, so the action doesn't happen the same way. To me, this is one of the signs support was winding down end of last year.
I think the fact OT doesn't have a ship phase gives it a unique flavor. I just wish they used more of the maps and gave us more control points instead. For instance, on Hoth they could have put 7 control points on the map and orgainized them so that the hangars and caves were part of the action. On Yavin 4, they could have also put 7 points and spaced them so that the Jedi Temple is part of the action. That's the sort of thing I expected.
