not clear what you mean by "special characters". Heroes? Aerial troops?
By design the different trooper classes have different (special) skills.
If you are asking if there are any modes without heroes, yes, there are modes like Strike that don't have heroes/villains.
He means tiered units most likely, meaning not one unit with 200 hp and another with 500 hp, and yet another with 800 hp. Then add in the buffs and damage reductions, this game is no where near being balanced.
- @xProdicate and then Finn activating Superteam and turning grunts into unkillable machines. (And yes, I only play Co-op and still struggle :D )
