Re: Crashes On Startup (Before Reaching Main Menu)

First thing to check when the whole system freezes at the first loading screen would be if the game tries to run on DirectX 12. To do that, navigate to the settings folder that should be located in
C:\users\PUT YOUR USERNAME HERE\documents\Star Wars Battlefront II\.
There should be a file named "Boot options". Open that with the Text Editor. If there's a line saying "GstRender.EnableDx12 1" change the 1 into a 0 and save it.

This will deactivate DirectX12 and the game should launch again, if the freeze was caused by that, which it is for many people.

I actually navigated to same location but instead of needing to turn off directx12 0 I did the opposite. I needed to turn on directx 12 1.

I have windows 10 and a nvidia geforce 2080 rtx. This is very useful post. I imagine a lot of people with the newer vid cards will need to turn on directx 12 in same spot instead of turning it off. This is for the crashing launcher only not in game crashes.

I actually done the opposite. I enabled DirectX12 by replacing the 0 by default to a 1 and that solved it for mw

I downloaded the game in D: not C: but non the less I still looked for a Boot Options in both by following the navigation you put. After about 30 minutes I gave up as I couldn't find it and thought it wasn't there. This does not show me how to solve the problem so either could you show an alternative way of turning on or of DirectX12 or an alternative solution

    @Alphy-Kitty

This post was originally from 2017 and there have been many updates to the game since then. If you're crashing on startup double-check to make sure you have all the Windows updates and latest driver installed for your GPU. We recommend creating a new post and include your DxDiag so we can look at your system specifications.

Can you try checking to see if you have any Windows updates pending to be installed? Your AMD card has a driver update from May, I recommend checking to see if you have any new driver updates for it here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-driver-autodetect

Check to see if you have any driver updates for your other hardware too, including sound devices.

Thanks, I have updated my OS to windows 10 pro and Driver as well up to date.

The game started without any issue.

The problem now when I start game cpu or gpu is overheating.  So had to turn off all advance graphics options kept the resolution to 1280 * 1024, Direct x 12 off. Graphics are at low then restarted the game.

Still, the fan starts to run fast I think cpu or gpu is over heating. It doesn't happen with other games Like Titanfall 2, World of tanks.

So basically still can't play game due to overheating.

NOTE: Same thing happened with Apex legends had uninstalled the game.

Updated directx file attached for reference

No programs were other than origin, or antivirus running in the background. I also played 2 MP games with lowest settings in window mode. Still fan speed was high noisy.

I had to install MSI afterburner and Riva tuner statistic to see for the changes. Will try the clean boot.

So the only way to get rid of that gpu overheating, speeding fan was switching to new GPU brought MSI RX 580 8 gb now no noise and can play with max settings.

Now game running well hope same does for the SW 3

As others previous have said. When you get to that folder you'll see a settings folder. Double click on that and in there you'll find your boot file.

I had same problem. Freezing on loading screen and never getting to start game menu. In fact it completely locked my computer up and with no signs of a fault. Had to reset it everytime I tried to get it to run the game. Mine seems to be as advised, I had to turn off directx12. I have 2 x nvidia geforce 670's fitted running in SLI mode. From reading the replies it seems the geforce needs dx12 turned off if you have issues and the rtx cards seem to need it switched on. My guess only.

Oddly mine ran 1st time and then not the next day. The way I got mine to work was by following the advise to get to boot file which I found in the settings folder. So one more folder extension on.

When I opened the boot file in note pad, there was no info written in it. Infact all files in the settings folder was blank as though info had been erased.

So I right clicked on each file in the settings folder one at a time and then selected restore file option. It then asked if I wanted to replace it with a earlier saved file. So I accept the earlier file. Please note I did this with all 4 files in the settings folder.

Then I opened the boot option file in note pad again and found numerous lines of text. I changed directx12 option off by changing the last digit from 1(on) to 0(off) as suggested and saved it.

Once that was done I made a copy off the settings folder and saved it into a new folder on my desktop should I need it later. It has worked the once since doing this. Hopefully this will work.

So for some strange reason it seems to have wiped the file text held within the original files. So basically it is like the file structure is all correct, no files missing, but no text in the files themselves disappeared.
