Re: Error Code 721 (Out of Country Data)

I have the exact same thing going on, which is how I found your post. No surprise to see that it was posted "two hours ago". I had been having problems with the EA/Origin website all day long. slow load times, weird issues with screens not loading. I am on a brand new computer and testing multiple browsers, had absolutely no luck.

Like you, I'm also in IT and also have a business class firewall that I started digging into and sure enough... same problem as you. I have a Layer 7 rule to block all traffic to China (as well as a bunch of others). Turn the rule off and the page loads just fine and I can access the login screen and other places that I couldn't get before.

I have been searching for some kind of definitive answer for hours, so I'm glad that I found your post of someone experiencing the same thing with this traffic to/from China.

So then the real question, is this legit and EA bumped over to a foreign server or is something MiM and skimming the traffic?

  • Happy my post could help.

Sending data overseas in such large volumes like EA needs would be extremely costly which is why this is just a temporary fix for maintenance purposes or in fact other reasons.

Great call out for Man in the middle attack and very well could be.

All my DNS based security wont block an EA valid domain unless it sees C&C behavior or malware being sent from it.

If both of our firewall (layer 7) policies are seeing this traffic going directly to China then the DNS resolution is resolving Chinese IPs hence being blocked.

I might reapply the policy later in the week and see if it's still an issue.

    Thanks
