Re: [Info request] Aiming randomly drifts or moves on consoles

Happens in Galactic Assault on Xbox One...a lot! This is extremely annoying. I’ll be zooming in on a target but the aim will shift slightly off target resulting in a miss.

FIX THIS PLEASE

  • I have been following this report for some time now, but although I do believe there's an issue with Xbox aim (or console aim if PS4 players also have rhe same issue) indeed, I think some people reporting here might have been affected by Aim Assist and believed it to be a BUG.

To separate things here: Aim Assist is a feature of this game, which can be (supposedly) disabled in the options menu. Aim Assist behave like the following:

If you put your aim on an enemy and he moves, your aim will drift slightly to try to follow this enemy's movement. If the enemy moves too fast, this drift isn't enough to keep your aim on target, but if you manually try to follow the enemy's movement, this drift will "help" you keep with the enemy's movement.

But it can also behave passively. If your aim is completely still, and then suddenly an enemy passes through your aim, it'll drift a bit to try to follow that enemy.

This Aim Assist isn't smart, so most of the time in a chaotic battle it'll start tracking an enemy which isn't the one you're aiming at. This is especially notorious in Starfighter gameplay, as AI ships fly all over the place, and are hardly ever a worthy target.

Just bringing this info here as some people might think they are experiencing a BUG, when they are actually just experiencing a very badly designed feature of the game.

Yeah this has happened to me frequently on all multiplayer gametypes since I started playing last year. I've tried it with and without aim assist, changed the stick deadzone multiple times, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, used 4 different controllers to check it wasn't just my main one acting up...

It's always random when it happens too so there doesn't seem to be anything that directly causes it every time. Sometimes I can play a dozen matches and not have it happen once, but then it'll happen multiple times over the next couple of games. It's not quite game breaking since it doesn't happen constantly, but it is highly frustrating (especially when trying to snipe, or if you're using a slow ability like Sentry) when your aim suddenly shoots off to the side randomly at a faster pace than your sensitivity allows for, or at a slow crawl that you try to compensate for and end up massively overshooting your mark because it stopped moving after 3 seconds.

The fact that this has been happening across all platforms since the game release two years ago and hasn't been fixed yet doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence it'll ever actually get patched. The only other times i've encountered this kind of thing has been on other multiplayer games over the years (mostly on PC) where the players I was aiming at were glitching/hacking and part of it was to stop others targetting them so they could maintain a high kdr and reap all the rewards that came with it. I doubt this is the case here since it affects so many different people on all platforms with different equipment facing different people, but just thought i'd mention it 'cos it feels a lot like aimdrift mods/hacks made directly from developer code that i've encountered on various other FPS multiplayer games over the last two decades.

It has happened to me since I bought the game Christmas 2018. But after the Felucia and offline content update it has been much worse. I was trying out Instant Action and Co-op, and I would barely move my right stick and my aim would just move in another direction in a very fast but clunky manner, felt like it was stuck during the time it was moving, got me killed several times...kinda gamebreaking...don't understand how it has been in the game for so long...

    @jukebox_hero37

I remember people complaining on Consoles that even turned off, AIM-Assist would still work as normal, so it's actually impossible to turn it off. I just don't recall where I saw this, or if there's an older report here about this issue.

Thing is, I've already seen footage that shows this Controller Drift which is being reported here, which has nothing to do with AIM-Assist. But as AIM-Assist also makes a similar effect, some comments here seem to be about AIM-Assist and not this Controller Drift out of the blue BUG. These issues can even be related, but that's something only the devs will be able to tell.

In the PC version we don't even have the option to turn off AIM-Assist, which is only active if we plug in a controller.

I can't believe what's going on here..  Where are the Dev's?  Where's the Feedback?  Where are the answers to this?

Where do we need to go to bring this to light?  I've had no problems with aiming for 2 years.  Now it's almost unplayable.  I'm also finding myself in games will folks from Russia, Mid East, India and US.  I'm in UK!

  • Hi.  Sorry for posting again.  I'd like to offer some info as per instruction.

    • What game mode do you get the issue? HvV (It's mostly all I play-It may happen on other modes)
    • What console do you have? (Original, S or Elite)  Erm....PS4
    • What controller do you have? (Original, costume, elite or third party brand - if yes, which brand exactly?) PS4 New Controller.
    • How long does it take in-game play time before you notice the drifting issue starting? Immediately.

I've noticed this for about 2 weeks now.  Since the update I believe, but can't be sure.  It's practically un-playable.

Her'es what I've noticed taking a closer look today.  I started on Solo missions.  Any Character.  I can Strafe no problem.  Left and right is fine.  If i try to turn right, it's smooth and OK.  As soon as i touch to turn Left, it's skips frames, Jitters, Fast Pans; sometimes as much as a 90 degree turn..It's not a slow track.  It's not Drifting smoothly,  it's jumping.  Only Left.  Constant.  I've taken vids on Playstation but not sure how to get them on here.  What would be recommended to share my vids?

    Thanks.

  • I have more info that may help diagnose the issue.

Soldier Sensitivity creates the problem.  Turning it to zero removes the Left Turn jitter.  PS4.  Right analogue Stick only when set to Default.

  • @SASLoner Definitely soldier sensitivity. Drifting stops at 0% setting but unable to play as the character cant (understandably) look left or right. Nice catch. Ive tried increasing it incrimentaly to see what level of lack of movement I can compromise with and 15% is the lowest I can go to still try and game. It leaves me vulnerable on my right side as I cant turn quick enough to block but its better than the seizures my ps4 have been getting thus far.
