Good news:
This has happened to me twice today, i'm on PC.
It had never done before.
Unfortunately I don't have any hope that DICE will fix this bug. Why? This bug has been present in all of DICE's games running on the Frostbite engine since Battlefield 3 launched over six years ago, including Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. I know because I have played them all and experienced the same issue in each of them (except Star Wars Battlefront, which I only played for 4 hours), even when playing on different platforms. I've also read that it is a common bug in many other Frostbite games such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and FIFA 2017. It has not been fixed in any of those games, so I would be rather surprised if they fix it in this one.
Just take a look at this huge EA Answers HQ thread for the same issue in Andromeda, which is currently up to 324 points and 179 replies: loss of sound on mass effect andromeda
According to posts #148 and #159 in that thread, BioWare has confirmed that this is a known issue with the Frostbite engine.

I don't recall it happening at all in Battlefront, and I played that just a tad bit more than 4 hours. 😉
On the bright side - I really haven't had it happen for several days now. May be just dumb luck...

That's part of the trouble with this bug: its presence can be rather sporadic, which likely makes it difficult to find and fix the source. In Battlefield 3, I would estimate that I experienced this bug at least 25 times – sometimes twice within an hour, and sometimes only once within 15 hours. It only happened perhaps once during the more than 35 hours I put into Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. In Battlefront II, it has only happened to me once or twice in my 85 hours of play.
These are just my numbers, though; some people experience it more often, others less. Some people in that Andromeda thread have reported that the bug appears during nearly every single multiplayer match they play.
This happened to me today for the first time and it happened on the second go-round of the Kashyyyk map. The first play as troopers seemed fine then as droids the sound just cut out. At first, I thought it was in settings but I went in and messed with the volume of both FX and Music and it didn't fix or change the bug. Two days ago on Yavin the third phase of the map the sound cut out and it experiences the same exact symptoms (not sure that is the correct word.) But when we moved to the fourth phase the sound came right back. Odd... as always.
@narion_k Thanks for letting us know that this is a "frostbite" related issue. I think knowing this makes me feel more content that they won't fix it. I know when we had the duplicate issue it was so frustrating that, that bug wasn't fixed for so long. But with this I can play a match or two without sound and chalk it up to a battle I picked not to fight. Thanks again for explaining and the examples.
