Consider that the audience Disney really want to get invested in their newly aquired franchise is not the over 30's but younger people. They are the future of the business. If loot boxes become regulated as gambling by government then anyone under 21 in the USA would not be able to play EA games. EA would have excluded the demographic that Disney most want to capture from all Star Wars games. If EA dont remove gambling then Disney may take away EAs "exclusive" right to make Star Wars games. Years ago Disney withdrew from a promotional deal with McDonalds worth 1 billion dollars to Disney cos McDonnalds were starting to be associated with childhood obesity and that is not good for Disneys child friendly image. Being associated with child gambling is worse. I doubt the fuss will end after The Last Jedi. EA dont care about gamers but they do care about Disney. So far Belgium, Sweden, France and the UK are looking into whether loot boxes are gambling. If one decide yes they will push for it in the entire EU, Belgium have already stated that intent. Hamaii have already decided it is gambling and are consulting with other states so many of then will fall too.
If EA are forced to remove loot boxes due to this from BF2 that will set a president for other games and gamer presure.
The whole loot box gambling "debate" is completely asinine.
Similar loot distribution practices have been used for years and years over countless games.
Anyone who knows what they are doing in this game knows that buying a loot box is not a gamble.
You will always get crafting parts. Crafting parts are all that really matter.
The occasional blue card reward that you get out of loot boxes barely mean anything unless you are new to the game. You have about a 1 in 5 chance of that blue card being even usable.
You earn credits to get loot boxes to get crafting parts to upgrade specific cards. The only part that is uncertain about the loot box is how many credits you will be reimbursed for the duplicates which determines how many credits you must grind before your next loot box.

Loot boxes have been around for years. But only recently have they come to the attention of the general public and governments. Many governments have just started investigating the legalities. Hence things may. Ill comment no further, we are going around in circles.
