Star wars battlefront 2 - character customisation

After playing battlefront 2 for a couple of hours I have to say I am a bit disappointed. The reason why is that there is no appearance customisation of your trooper classes. I have heard this was so as to not to spoil the star wars universe's image, however what is the harm of being able to change gender and alien race (where applicable) of your troopers? You did this in the first one so why isn't it here? it just seems a lil lazy this wasn't added.
