STAR WARS: Battlefront II crashing at random, unplayable

Every time I try to play Battlefront 2, it will crash. Sometimes it will crash in menu within a minute of launching the game. I am usually able to join a multiplayer game for up to thirty seconds before it crashes, but on loading the campaign it will crash on the loading screen.

For a while (since after the Ewok Hunt game mode was in then removed from the game) every time I tried to launch the game, it would crash in the initial loading screen. Yesterday, I uninstalled & reinstalled Origin and Battlefront 2 multiple times to no avail. Everything was up to date except a small Windows (I'm using Windows 10) update. After I updated that, I got to the point I'm at now. My PC meets the system requirements to run the game. I turned the graphic settings down to low, Direct X12 off, but that did not solve anything. I have tried right-clicking and hitting "Repair" and "Update Game" but that has not helped. I have run both Origin and Battlefront 2 as administrator, to the same sad result.

It would be nice to find out I didn't waste $60 on this game.

  • Hey Nu1l, try these fixes,  some are copy and paste from other threads but 4 and 5 helped mine out,

    1. Allow Origin and Battlefront through your antivirus (doubt it helps)
    2. Verify your game files via steam or origin.
    3. Update your Operating System, and then make sure to check for Video driver updates.
    4. Put the root EXE file for Battlefront 2 as run as administrator (remember this)
    5. If it still does NOT work.  Take the run as administrator away and only have fullscreen optimizations on (THIS ACTUALLY WORKED FOR ME)

After I verified the game was running like intended,  I went ahead and removed the fullscreen optimizations and played the game fully.

I hope this helps quite a bit as I had to do my own testing as it was not written anywhere I've looked.

  • Hey @ElCaptRidiculus.  Just a suggestion. Happens to me sometimes too. With the amount of options in this game, there are many areas where conflict can occur in PC gaming online.  Try doing a cold boot before you play. Shut down the computer, modem and router. Wait 2 mins. Start router, then wifi, wait for it, then PC. You should have a nice clean signal and PC running with nothing else in the memory or background. ( Hate having pop-ups in the background when I play as it throws me out of the game).

I reboot each time I play and anytime I walked away for more than 30 mins while the game is running. A quick reboot saves me the headaches and the game then becomes amazing. Have over 1,000 hours playing and several hundred reboots but it works for Windows PC's  Remember windows runs several programs in the background that can interfere with your connection and Antivirus that can be checking whats coming and going. Can be a real drag.

    Try it out..

  • Upon trying this, I wasn't in a place I could reset my router or modem, but turning my computer off for a few minutes worked well enough. It would start to crash after maybe half an hour, but at least the game is playable.

When it crashes do you fall out of SWBF2, or to Windows or just back to the lobby?

  • The game gives me a black screen for half a second then closes, dropping me to my desktop then un-minimizing origin with no error report or anything. To be able to play again, I just turn off my computer and let it sit for a few minutes.

Hey, @ElCaptRidiculus make sure all drivers are up to date on your PC ( GPU, CPU, audio etc). What you also can do is a clean boot, its to see if there any programs that can mess with SWBF2 or Origin.
