Starfighter Battles Are Agonizing

Just bought this game a week ago, hadn't played Battlefront since the 2005 version.

Been playing a lot, having fun despite spawning/dying/spawning/dying to people with maxed out cards I can't possibly compete with. That's all well and good when it's a huge ground battle, but in starfighter assault this is absolutely awful, and it's compounded by the fact that leveling up ship types in starfighter mode is as slow as molasses.

I've played for hours as an interceptor and as a fighter. They're probably comparable to the amount of time I've played as an Officer, Heavy, or Specialist. My specialist is 39, Officer is 21, Heavy is 12. My fighter is 9, my interceptor is 9.

It sucks a lot of the fun out of a match when I keep getting blown up seconds after spawning by someone with a set of fully maxed cards, and I shouldn't need to engage in an MMORPG-like grind just to level up my star fighters.

I know this game is dead and EA is a soulless, bloodless money-grubbing nightmare, I just wanted to speak my piece on this as a new player to the game. Don't expect I'll be messing with future titles, while this game is fun it still can't hold a candle to the old Battlefront 2.

  • To level up troopers, heroes, vehicles, and special units easily, Co-Op is useful for star cards.

Triple XP is on Wednesdays so playing then can help level up quickly.

And finally, I hate to bear bad news, but the way this game is set up, grinding is the most integral part of the game.

That covers all the bases, so have fun and good luck!

I had a feeling there wasn't much to be done about it.

Just offering (hopefully) feedback as a customer.

  • @sturnado I resorted to only playing SFA on Double/Triple XP days because of the grind. Even then, I got burnt out getting all 3 fighter classes up to Prestige. I still have to finish working on all the Hero Fighters, and it's hard to find the motivation. I'd almost rather work on grinding the Artillery class :/

Also, once you get your base Troopers to 25, depending on how you've spent or saved your Training Points, you can have 3 Purple-rarity Star Cards equipped. The game really begins to open up at that point. The curve is steep, but rewarding once you get to the high end.
  • If you’re dying instantly then the problem is not cards. The best cards to fit on pretty much every map are not defensive in nature, but offensive. The only time I ever switch to defensive cards on interceptor (main) is Unknown Regions as imperial and then it is just elite pilot (turn speed) which also helps with offence.  The rest of the time I’m always maxing out my laser damage and duration.

You're probably dying quickly because you haven’t developed map knowledge and aren’t being methodical about the paths you’re taking to targets yet.  You’re probably also not maintaining your situational awareness of your surroundings yet either.

Eventually with practice you’ll automatically hug obstacles to reduce angles you can be attacked from, know the foolproof evasion tactics and be able to destroy targets more quickly to avoid flying in straight lines for extended periods.

  • @sturnado As someone who is really good at Starfighter Assault, I haven't played it regularly in over a year. Between every tie bombers with ion ability crutches, tie interceptor out classed by every other starfighter and getting picked off by AI turrets on the other side of the map, it's not much fun, even when you're doing well.
  • Everyone stars at the bottom ....only time and experience will get you up the ladder. Find out which strategy works for you and keep at it. I find heavy troopers and COOP are the easiest way to start building credits esp on triple points Wednesday!

As for starfighters ...I'm currently on 570 as a fighter ...doesn't stop me being blasted out of the heavens by a level 5.

Look to the AI battles as part of the training to get a good feel for all the playing options.
