[Updated] Offline is the future for Star Wars Battlefront 2

So far I absolutely love the game in terms of core gameplay, visuals, story and maps. But there is one major thing for me that is preventing the game from being perfect, and its not so much the microtransactions, but more so, the lack of OFFLINE maps and game modes.

I think star wars battlefront 2 is the type of game that should prioritise offline, just as the originals did. That's what made them great, the ability to choose your battle scenarios, have minimal deaths, and you don't have to wait for 15 minutes just to find 7 more players to join your game.

Star wars is undoubtedly built on the feeling that you are the one person 'in the Galaxy' that happens to be able to take down an entire 'moon-sized space station', even though not so long ago you were just an average teenage farmboy. THAT is exactly the feeling you get from the original games (and movies), and it is a feeling I will admit, shows it self from time to time in the new battlefront, but it often feels held back from its high potential by pushing things like offline modes to the side, and focusing in on what gets the big money now a day's- quick online multiplayer and loot boxes. This is making long-time fans feel heavily neglected of their opinions.

I purchased the season pass for EAs battlefront 1 late while it was was on sale. I was quite happy with some of the content like the death star etc but unfortunately, after cumulative hours of trying, I was NEVER able to find a game on cloud city, and therefore NEVER got to play it. What a waste of both MY time and money AND the developers, seeing as I'll likely never be able to appreciate that map.

The original battlefront games did not develop such a devoted fan base by limiting content or using micro transactions, they did it by making games that were unique, that could last, and in particular gave every player that feeling i was talking about that the films made us want so bad. The originals gave us that by making us feel like we were special troopers that would survive even when all your team was down, or pretending to be squad commander, or being the one to take down entire star destroyers single handedly from inside out. And that's a feeling that offline single player modes can offer best. (I think you know this feeling, hence Iden Versio).

I'm not trying to nag at you specifically to recreate space battles with hangers necessarily. And I'm aware that probably wouldn't work for online anyway (which is why it sucks). Because, to my amazement, I'm actually pretty happy with the new system of battle points, and the space and ground battles. But these things work great for ONLINE. And online can sometimes make it feel un-star-warsy and more call of dutyish. And i fear that the new franchise is becoming less and less unique. Now If you just paid more attention to offline. To things fans of the originals desperately want and know the game needs. I think this game could be one of the greatest.

Just remember... The very reason you are making Star Wars 'Battlefront' is because the originals battlefronts, that had such a strong fan base. So they are the ones to try to please, not some COD fans looking for dull, competitive multiplayer.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO RECREATE SUCH A GREAT GAME FRANCHISE, THEN DON'T TAKE AWAY WHAT MADE THEM GREAT TO START OFF WITH.

This being said, I do actually really enjoy the online multiplayer, because at the end of the day it is still really fun and can add tense moments between two opposing force wielder's. And I don't think you should change the way the multiplayer actually works, because it works well in my opinion as a multiplayer game, but what I'm saying is, I would rather play in a perfected version of the offline mode ANY day of the week, and I WOULD, even in the custom arcade mode, given that it would have all modes and maps, but it doesn't.

And I would love to be able to properly explore and appreciate all of the beautifully made maps without getting shot at by some competitive, drone-like COD player.

Maybe if the online multiplayer had a mode for big battles but with mainly bots and only 4 real players on either side, maybe that could please everyone, I don't know. Still wouldn't replace offline though.

An offline focused battlefront would also completely eliminate the demanding need for balanced multiplayer (the entire microtransaction system solved) which can sometimes ruin immersion. I would pay for dlc over loot boxes any day.

All of that aside, I do love this game and the way each element plays (heroes, ships, ground battles- I also LOVE effortlessly deflecting blaster fire while walking straight for the enemy as Darth Vader- that's awesome). I just hope you give us all the modes and maps offline so I can KEEP on playing it, cause I just feel it isn't built to last like the originals. After all what happens if I want to play on Kashyyyk in galactic assault in say three months time, or even three years, and I can't find enough players to play with me, what then, I just CAN'T replay that map? Well that's a bummer because that was a highlight moment for me in the game. Don't forget also that this would mean all that time and money spent creating that piece of art of a map will likely be forgotten and will become short lived. This was sadly the case for EAs battlefront 1, which is a shame.

PS. Imagine all the content we could have if it was one game built to last with continually content updates, all based around offline. It will be disappointing in the next game when they don't add kashyyyk as a playable map simply because it was already done in the previous game. I mean they can't keep releasing the same game with the same set of maps and characters that everyone likes each couple of years. But they kinda have to do it because its not a battlefront game without a Hoth map, or Darth Vader. They should just have a solid base game and keep adding to it.

PPS. What's the go with Yoda's starfighters wings being so vertical? I always thought they were more angled. This bugs me a little. Maybe its just me? I loved that ship when I was younger.

I would love to see some responses.

Thanks for reading.

  • @micbp the hackers have driven the majority of the playerbase away from basically every Star Wars game out there because DICE and EA or Motive does little to nothing to prevent them from rejoining because they end up with different e-mail accounts, using different usernames altogether.

@ChrisAWJBethel yep, thats what we get when there is a dev who cares about the game, and publisher who does not. great games which are not treated with deserved leeway

@Edairman198526 i think its EA mostly. Dice, from what i see really did put their star wars heart into this. decision making, like how much sources to dedicate to which service, just like when to pull the plug is solely EAs prerogative i think. and sadly for them "Star Wars" might as well be "Coca Cola", just a popular brand. those execs who make decisions will never visit these forums, probably know nothing about star wars, will never know that something is wrong with the game, unless there is uproar and a risk to the stock

ps. in terms of individual cheaters though, i must give credit where its due, they ban those who are reported. i reported several obvious cheaters, never seen any of them again. free epic givaway probably is to blame for these rejoining, those cheaters probably got hundreds of free accounts to waste during that. but what can they do? ban by ip? i dont think its done anywhere with paid products
  • They dont ban or block * - I have video of cheaters, reported them, blocked them and been thrown into another match with the same assclown a week later doing the same stuff...

and yes IP Bans for paid software are a thing -  iRacing does it on the reg to people who dont follow the rules. Which is A-OK with me. Its refreshing that a company stands behind their product and wants to give people the best online experience possible. And if that means banning idiots and making a few mad, so be it.

hmm, i keep hearing people saying that, that they dont ban or block

my experience drastically different though. ive reported at least 10 people over a course of few months playing this game daily and never seen any of those again, even "subtle" cheaters who have like 200% damage increase, let along those who are one-shot or fly around the map. ive also never saw cheaters with high level accounts, so it kinda speaks to the fact that they dont live long? but maybe im just lucky, so i wont talk more on this off-topic, i almost start to feel that im defending cheaters or making it seem that everything is ok with the game, which is definitely not the case

(but i really hope we are talking about real cheaters, not just players that are good, since i see people constantly accusing good players of being cheats in the chat)

looking up iRacing, yep, its done, you right. i kinda doubt it would be done here though, since iRacing is a long ongoing project from 2008 with updates to this day, not something thats cut short as soon as its not making top cash, despite having millions of players and a ton of potential... you know

if it is done someday though, i dont think any honest player would have a problem with it, yeah. as long as players dont get accidenatly banned for cosmetic mods or on false reports

getting back to offline. recently tried battlefield 2042. can see where people complains come from, but that portal mode was really cool i felt. if they wouldve done something like this for battlefront, where it combines all maps and modes from 2 games, where you can customize sides, tick on or off reinforcements, heroes, vehicles, have map rotation, your own server with any modes, and available with customizable AI to just play with your buddies, or just by yourself, instead of cheating or toxic randoms, unbalanced teams, imba abusers, etc. i would honestly buy this "new" game. throw in a few new maps we never got like mustafar and utapau, and man... that would be a dream battlefront game to me. but seeing bf2042 failure they would probably assume portal mode was part of it as well and i really doubt they would go for something like this, afraid of repeating the experience
