Weapon mods dont unlock after completeing a milestone unless you leave the lobby

So if I complete a weapon milestone mid game, I cant apply the mod at character selection. I have to leave the game, apply it in my collections and return to the game. It would be so much simpler if I could just apply it during the match if I want. Was hoping this would get fixed with the update but it wasnt.
