Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised how long updates were released.
You idea is an interesting one. Game companies are so focused on the "big take" of initial purchases with some DLCs (closest to your idea), I don't know that anyone has tapped the idea of turning over ongoing enhancements to a small group (possibly 3rd party). Perhaps, it's similar to movies - the original producers do not want to see their art stray too far.
