2 players on the same console for Battlefront

Hello,

I am having a hard time playing Battlefront with another person on the same console. It used to be so much easier to do with past versions of Playstation but with the PS4 it seems like they want to have that second person with an account. It really shouldn't be this difficult to play with a second person split screen. What do I need to do? It can obviously be done. Do I need to set up a guest and will they be able to keep and see their stats?
