I doubt you're alone but the only thing I'm disappointed with is there isn't more of it. Not that I think the game isn't good value, but it does fall short of being exceptional or a masterpiece. It is still great fun and the content that's there has kept me going for 17hours and I'm still only half way through the campaign (which I still maintain is the best bit of the game). When all is said and done I will have gotten more than enough joy from this game, fully immersed in VR, to justify the price tag.
The conversations can feel a little stilted at times, almost like there was meant to be pauses for the player to select a conversation item but that part was cut leaving it as a pure info dump monologue that was recorded and delivered in chunks. It's a shame but personally I appreciate the backstory and it's entirely skippable if you're not interested.
You thinking you could choose a faction when it was clearly stated the campaign switched back and forth really isn't the games fault. It would have been nice to have the option to play from one side or the other, or switch back and forth but that's not what the game set out to be.
X4 is an completely different sort of game, No Mans Sky is a completely different sort of game (with terrible space combat), Rebel Galaxy is a completely different game that flies your ship in combat for you if you want, Starlink battle for atlas?! We're getting further and further away here. Clearly if this is what you're looking for than Squadrons is not the game for you.
Sorry you bought a game with expectations that weren't met but I have to say in this instance that seems to be very much on you not the game or it's advertising. It was pretty clear what this game was and how much content it had. I wish there was more because it's great.
