Battlefront Crashes on Launch

Do you overclock your system - like gpu, cpu, ram, etc? If yes, try without any kind of overclock. Disconnect the secondary monitor/display, and try running the game with only the main monitor/display.

I have the same general problem, except I am launching the Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Edition. I'm using a brand new HP Envy all-in-one 24-n014 computer. Just downloaded the game via Origin today and I get the same exact screen message during launching. It kicks me out to your same black screen and same error message.

What gives??

Anyone attempting to ignore the requirements based on anything as meaningless as the "age" of a new PC will have that problem!  A typical All-in-One is as badly limited in performance as any average laptop is.

Posting the "recommended" requirements doesn't help anyone. I, for one, and not going to upgrade to Windows 10 just to play this game.

The documented "minimum" requirements (which I soundly exceed) are as follows:

I forgot to mention in the original post that I did try underclocking my CPU already. My CPU is usually overclocked and runs 100% stable 100% of the time (bus multiplier only, no memory overclock, stock voltage). Even though it'll run a CPU burn in for as long as I want to run it, I set it back to stock... just to rule it out. I set everything to auto, and the CPU speed went from 4.0Ghz to 3.5Ghz. I also have another CPU I could try... but I really doubt that is it.

I did try your suggestion of disabling monitors, and got the same result. I first tried by just shutting them off. When that didn't work, I physically disconnected them from the back of the PC. No joy. Doesn't this game support multiple monitors anyway?

On a side note, this game works fine on two other computers in my house. One is has a Radeon 7850 (the published minimum), as well as a system with a Radeon 6950... which is technically below the minimum requirements. So this is NOT an issue of system requirements.

If a well-maintained PC with 16GB of RAM, an 8-core CPU, and a Radeon R9 280X can't even launch this game, there is definitely something wrong on the developer's end.

Overclocking may cause problems, but not necessarily. It was only a suggestion. I overclock cpu, gpu and ram (changed timmings) and the game runs very well and my pc is very stable.

Are you shure Windows is updated? Cause your Dxdiag is reporting 10 windows update failures.

You can try removing Radeon drivers and install them back. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in safe mode to do this - http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Another suggestion: if you played SWBF Beta and still have it installed, remove it using windows "programs and resources".

No worries. The overclocking question was quite valid. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who OC and don't test it completely.

For Windows Update, I'm going off off the applet, which reports "Up to date". Not sure what the error was all about, but it's not uncommon to see one update fail, then update successfully after a reboot. I can't recall that happening, but it's certainly not something I would pay much attention to. I run a WSUS server for updates on my home domain. The last time updates were approved was on 12/24. I updated the PC the game is installed on the same day.

I realized that the WSUS connection from my PC to the update server seems broken. I'm working on fixing it now.

I'll also remove and reinstall the video drivers using the link you provided.

I did have the beta installed at once point, but I never actually launched it until after the beta was over. At that point, I uninstalled it. Could there be something lingering (nothing showing under Programs and Features).

On a side note, another Origin game... Titanfall, throws an error when I exit it. The game plays fine, but once I hit exit from within the game, I get a very similar error message:

Actually, I spoke too quick. My WSUS is working fine. It wasn't showing in the WSUS computer list because it was 100% patched.

The error is similar, but there is a difference: Faulting module name: dxgi.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17415. Dxgi.dll belongs to DirectX. It could be corrupted or infected by trojan. I use to run this program - https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ - once a week. Solved many problems, like connection issues, programs not working/responding, browser issues, including SWBF inability to connect to ea servers.

EDIT: ADWCleaner is not an antivirus; it is just a complement.

Thanks for the additional tips. Here's the results.

- I ran the cleaner you linked, and it only found one minor issue with a Firefox plugin I've used for years (FoxyTunes), but I removed it anyway.

- I did a deep scan with my currently installed AV (Avast), which found nothing amiss.

- I booted into safe mode and used DDU to remove my graphics drivers, rebooted, installed the latest AMD drivers, and rebooted again. No go.

- Used the following old trick to show all hidden devices in Device Manager, removed lingering junk from there. No help.:

  set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

  start devmgmt.msc

I'm running out of ideas here. I'm now looking to find a way to repair DX11, but I can't seem to find a clear cut page on it, since it's built into windows now.
