There seem to be three modes for audio:
- All audio except UI "beeps" and the occasional environmental effect are missing, and
- sound is crakling horribly as if amplified into clipping, or
- sound works.
Both can only be fixed by restarting the game and hoping for the best, chances for each seem to be the same.
(edit) The crackling apparently sometimes goes away when a match starts or ends.
