Black screen @ startup Microsoft Surface Pro 4 i7/iris/540/8 gb - fresh install

Hello,

I have updated the latest drivers as of 9:00 am on dec 12th.  I get the black screen at start up with the following error message: " Star wars battlefront has stopped working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available."

What can I do?

I noticed the intel website has an updated beta driver that corrects this issue (I think) but Microsoft is one of the company's that will not let me install the updated driver suite from intel directly - go figure.  (I get a notification when trying to install the updated driver to go to Microsoft directly for the driver download.)  Is there a manual fix?

thanks

Sorry to say, but your Surface Pro cannot handle this game.  You need a good dedicated graphics card, which you do not have on there.  This game would overheat your tablet like crazy.  You need a very good gaming laptop or a pretty decent PC to run this.  Sorry!!!

Minimum GPU is a GTX 660

I never bothered keeping up with those half-computer Microsoft creations, however, I rather doubt that the CPU is entirely fast enough, either!

that's weird because here is an older 4gb surface pro 2 i5 with intel hd 4400 that can run battle front check out link

There needs to be a work around.

I tried the user.cfg but no such luck.  Any other thoughts?

You should be seeking your tech advice somewhere other than an EA website.  The company won't support the tinker toys that Intel includes as freebie video devices in their CPUs.

    Write the You-Tube author, perhaps!

fair enough....  However, I am not one to give up when I know there has to be a solution.  I figured someone around here would be up to the challenge to try to get this thing to play the odd game every now and again.  I use the sp4 i7 for work and only plan on taking one device with me for travel and I still would like to play.  (yes, I know it is a less than ideal device for gaming but it is perfect for my everyday use otherwise.)

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi, same problem for me.  I'm sure there is a solution. Maybe a New release of the iris 540 drivers for surface pro 4 from Microsoft could help. I don't understand why it's working with others Intel graphic cards. Il anybody have some news... Thx
