Practice will make you better. This game is more complex than what players are used to today, it's a throwback to the past where you actually had to learn how to play a game, practice and develop skill to be good at it. Granted, console gamers likely aren't used to this as much as some old PC veterans.
If you think that PC Players with their HOTAS have an advantage, go and a HOTAS with console support (Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One for Xbox One, T.Flight HOTAS 4 for PS4) and you should have an even playing field with those (and more fun, too - although many say controllers work better for the game anyway). You'll see that in reality, the game is on an even playing field, no matter the system you play on.
The reason why you have to wait longer with crossplay disabled is that you are being matched with a much, much smaller pool of players and thus have to wait longer to find a match. No conspiracies here, just logic. And - aside from being able to play with all your friends no matter which system they are on - it's actually one of the reasons why there is crossplay to begin with, so you can get matched up quicker, so you just made a point for regular Crossplay.
