Fallen Order - No longer runs (via Epic) - updated with potential workaround
I purchased Jedi: Fallen Order via the Epic store on December 27th 2019, so I've had it a while, and have played for over 91 hours (see one of the screenshots).
Now that I'm being forced to use the EA App, I can no longer play the game, because I get the message "This title may have been downloaded to your device by another user who owns the game. Log in to a different account or restart the app to try again." (see other screenshot).
I only have one EA/Origin account, and I'm the only person who uses my PC, so I know it's my account, and I know I installed it.
I have checked the forums, and I have seen the advice given to others and none of it works.
So far I have uninstalled/reinstalled both the Epic Game Store and EA apps.
Uninstalled/reinstalled Fallen Order several times.
Tried running the game via EGS and EA apps.
I also found the following advice on one of the other posts:
- Check for other applications that may be limiting EA App or Game performance
- EA App's Cache (Top Left Menu > Help > App Recovery)
- Repair/Verify your game based on which client you are launching from
- EA App - Repair (My Collection > Tile Dots > Repair)
- EGS - Repair (Library > Tile dots > Manage > Verify)
- Steam - Verify in your library
- Run the System File Checker tool then Check for Windows and GPU updates
- Install/Repair your VC++ files for Fallen Order(Microsoft VC++ Link)
- Put your device in a Clean Boot then launch the game
I did all that, and it still doesn't work.
So please advise what can be done to rectify this.
(The only other EA game I own on Epic is The Sims 4, so I tried installing that and it worked fine, so this issue is only affecting Fallen Order for me).
I've got it working, however I don't know if cloud saves are working with this method.
Firstly I managed to get the game to load by running the following exe through File Explorer:
\Jedi Fallen Order\SwGame\Binaries\Win64\SwGame-Win64-Shipping.exe
It loads the EA app, and then loaded the game.
I did notice there was a slight difference in the file sizes.
starwarsjedifallenorder.exe [59,811 KB]
SwGame-Win64-Shipping.exe [59,809 KB]I don't why, and didn't have any issues when I tested it.
Pinning the SwGame-Win64-Shipping.exe (or a shortcut) to the start menu works fine too.
I have the deluxe edition, and noticed that the content wasn't available from the main menu, so did a little digging through the folders.
On my installation the deluxe content is in the following folder.
\Jedi Fallen Order\0003518\SwGame\Content\
I copied the Deluxe and Paks folders to \Jedi Fallen Order\SwGame\Content\ and then launched the game, and the content became available on the main menu.
I've watched one of the videos, and it seemed to work fine.
