Use 5 to access the targeting wheel to select "enemy fighters", then use F, if you're on PC. If you're on console, you'll need to determine which buttons to use.
I think some of the ships may be equipped with stealth, which, I believe, means you to have target them with T, when you see them.

As a slight workaround if you press cycle targets twice it will target an enemy that is targetting you, at least that means it targets something close. Still...would prefer the option thats available in every other game. - DarthFDG5 years agoHero+
I was under the impression F targeted closest enemy. Not doing that for you, I suppose...

I think it targets often the closest but sometimes they are hidden etc.
