I was under the impression F targeted closest enemy. Not doing that for you, I suppose...
I think it targets often the closest but sometimes they are hidden etc.
No, F only cycles targets. There does not appear to be any button to target the nearest enemy. You need to have this. On all the old games it was the 'r' key, and it should be for this game. Almost game-breaking. The closest work around I have found is to turn on targeting to auto-target what you are shooting at in the reticle. That can help at least to target a closer fighter, but they have to be in front of you. The other option is the 'g' button which will target your attacker. Problem is, the closest ship isn't always attacking you or in front of you. So for now, we're without the most important function button of any flight sim. Patiently waiting.
