Agreed that “Easy” level - erm, isn’t 🙂 It would be good to add extra difficulty levels (Maybe 3-5 Levels in total?). I think a big part of the issue is pinpoint accuracy of AI. Watching the kill cams (which I’ve done once or twice, ahem), AI seems to perfectly track you and stay on target even when passing at high speed. Suspect the same is happening with capital ship turrets? We’re all wrestling with controls to get on target whereas AI just seems to lock on and track perfectly whilst shooting us to bits? Slightly less accuracy might actually encourage players to fly evasively if it’s clear that it makes a difference..
Would be great to address it so there are easier modes (and harder too if some people want that) as it’ll make the game accessible to more people. I’ll stick with it and do the hard yards to learn anyway - but I have a bunch of long-term Star Wars fan mates I’d love to have in my squadron who are time poor and will get fed up of being blown out of the sky repeatedly after a couple of games. Would be great to have the option of some chilled co-op games with them. And more players = more income = more likelihood of future DLC.
Maybe add an AI mode on dogfight too? To learn basic co-op flying without the extra complexity of fleet battles (great though it is)?
I have no problem at all with lower rewards for all of the above to give an incentive to improve and /or pvp.
This is not a case of dumbing down this fantastic game, just give a few more options on how to play.
Thanks to Motive for building this game it’s fantastic and it reminds me why I play video games in the first place.
While I’m here - how about taking a similar simulation approach for the ground fighting in Battlefront - go on, let’s have a “Ghost Recon: Rebel Commando” game next 🙂
I’m playing this game with my son, my brother and my nephew. None of us care how much XP we earn. They can “adjust it” if people are worried about it being too easy. The point is the game needs to provide a pathway for people to improve and want to keep playing. I understand game development is hard but I see two real issues:
1. the AI pilots lock on to you and don’t miss. They don’t seem to have any of the issues that real pilots might have. It’s clearly set up where the AI team has 1 support pilot, 1 “ace” and then three that swing between fighters and bombers. But the “ace” racks up 4,000+ points a game with 25+ kills. It’s one thing when a human shows up and does this and you just bow to their skill. But it’s not fun to fly a Y-wing toward the star destroyer on easy mode and have an interceptor nail you in ten seconds before you get there.
2. the Star Destroyer is both tough and invulnerable. It absorbs huge amounts of fire and kills in one pass (or less) 90+% of the time. Which would be fine but the MC75 doesn’t make a dent in the attacking AI. The players have to shoot them down or it goes up like a matchstick. We consistently get to the Star Destroyer without loosing a frigate but then barely scrape by.
As an aside, we are consistently beating it by essentially using an exploitive strategy. When we get to the Star Destroyer two guys attack it while my son uses the Gatling gun and the multi-warhead missiles to hang back far from the SD and take out the “AI” tie fighter in huge numbers. He’s getting like 35 AI kills per game, lol. This allows us to stay on the attack for a couple of suicide runs each before having to defend. We also typically wait for the corvette to lower the shields for us. I have only once killed the shield generators and this was a “miraculously survived “ and then just parked on the ball shooting scenario.

Yes, it needs to be fun for all skill levels. Otherwise interest in the game is going to go away very soon and the game will die very quickly.
Look at StarCraft 2. It has something to offer for absolute newbies up to the level of pro-gamers. There is something fun to do for players of all levels (campaign, co-op, arcade, ladder). If the only thing fun to do for someone new in squadrons is to play the campaign they will quickly move on because people don't want to needlessly frustrate themselves in the hope of becoming good one day so that the game will be fun in 3 months time. It's a game, it's recreational, it should be fun now. If people want to play the easy mode they should be allowed to find it to be exactly that: easy. Normal should be normal and there should possibly some kind of challenge mode as well.

I just tried it and bothered going till the end for the 1st time as rebels and won without even playing half the time. Spent most of the game changing the bindings for a gamepad.
Thats not me saying Im amazing...the complete opposite, I did literally nothing to help other than shoot a few tie fighters.
Im not sure AI Tie Bombers should be able to do a 180 quicker than my xwing though...
This was in solo mode on easy. Wouldnt surprise me if it ramps the difficulty up the more human players you have.
I would defo agree with the star destroyer being impossible. The few times I went near it during the time you're supposed to attack I got insta killed everytime within seconds. Good luck trying to knock out all the turrets on that

Totally Agreed. It's too hard. My favourite part is when we attack the Star Destroyer, it pushes us back (by desintegration) then the Raider comes with the enemy squadron and in one wave they destroy our whole fleet. Annoying
- 5 years ago@Savagebeasty Solo on easy is exactly that: easy (or at least doable). Coop on easy is not. In coop you cannot rely anymore on your wingmates to carry you.
In solo easy I have a win rate of 100%. In coop easy I have a win rate of 0%. While playing coop normal my win rate is more like 70-80%.
