FPS problems PC

Platform: PC

Issue: When I start playing battlefront I normally get a solid 60 fps on the home screen and in game. However, recently it opens and 50% it'll be 60 fps and the other 50% it drops to 12 - 15 fps and stays there. This also occurs when I join a game. It can be fixed though by Alt+Tab out of the game and back in again, however after a while it goes straight back to the low performance and you have to do the whole thing again. Looking on the forums I can't find anyone else with the same problem. Any ideas how to fix this?

Can you reproduce this issue 100% of the time: It reproduces itself after about 4 minutes or so.
Details on how to reproduce the issue: ^^^
Region: EU
Internet Service Provider (ISP): BT infinity
Connection Speed: 21.9 bits download, 18.22 bits upload.

Processor (CPU): AMD FX 8350
Graphics Card (GPU): GTX 660
Memory: 8GB
Operating System: Windows 10 64bit

Thank you!!!

  • @CapnPotato off the top of my head this second I would try with a clean cfg as your config could be the problem  but be warned you will have to redo all game settings. But first try a clean boot as this could be due to a program on your pc lol again this is all my bf4 write ups but it is the same for this game .....

Try a clean boot : run a Clean Boot: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/
This should ensure that no programs are interfering in the background.

NOTE>>> If the clean boot fixes it below are a list of  programs and PC settings known to give issues just to try and help you pin point this

Below are programs known to make issues in games

Disable Mantle if you have it and try Direct X, Turn OFF Anti-Aliasing Deferred in video card settings in game. If you have page file turned off then turn it back on as this can make errors even with 32gigs ram.

Others have said if they uninstall MSI Afterburner issues / crashing is stopped. So if you have this installed remove program and test BF4. Also look at other programs as Asus Game First Service...ROG Game First , Razer synapse, Razer Cortex, Qualcomm Killer Service , Fraps, EVGA Precision, Geforce experience, be sure to turn off the streaming function that is enabled by default ,Raptr, RivaTuner , ASRock eXtreme Tuner, Steam, Skype, aero ,Overwolf extra program in teamspeak and xfire are known to make issues as well. And I am sure more programs not in my list yet turn one off at a time and test BF4.

Uninstall the HD Audio Driver from the video card driver install add/remove programs. This silly thing makes issues in BF4 for some. Reboot then repair BF4 to be safe.

    C:\Users\your PC Name\Documents\your battlefront folder/ starwars

starewars folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if starwars is installed on different drive. When you uninstall starwars it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues. Even if its not a new install it is still worth trying as the game cfg could be mucked up.

1- Go to my Documents and remove starwars/ battlefront  folder place it on your Desktop for now.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
    3-Repair starwars
4- When done go test your game. If it fails reboot your PC and run repair game again and test starwars.

Sorry for the lack of reply, been very busy recently! I enabled all start-up programs as they were all disabled and from there disabled each one individually and then opened the game to see if the problem was fixed. However, after doing this for all programs, none of them seemed to be resolving the problem. Any ideas on what else to do? Also, I was not able to open the NVIDIA control panel either.

  • If you right click on the NVIDIA GeForce Experience icon in the lower right corner, you should be able to select "Open NVIDIA Control Panel" from the available choices. You'll need to have installed the drivers from NVIDIA's website, not just using the drivers that come with Windows. I also am using a GTX 660.

@CapnPotato @coolhand91 I agree coolhand91 I always set my PC's to performance in nvidia control panel and making sure I have the last drivers for my video cards as well. The only time I go back to a older driver is if the new driver does not give me the fps I should have from my cards. The odd time they do put out a semi bad driver when it comes to FPS lol.

The only thing I have to add to your post is in control panel for Niveda is under 3D settings under adjust settings with preview also set this to performance as well as under the games area as stated by you.

My video cards in 2 of my main rigs I have one GTX690 in old game rig and in my main game rig I have two ROG 980Ti killer cards when one games on 3 screens :] I am pulling out 180 - 200 fps on 5760 X 1080 resolution on med in BF4. I am a FPS nut when it comes to pulling out the most FPS from my game rigs.

And thank you coolhand91 for helping in the topic more so due to I am afk most days due to a basement reno and only have my laptop to go online with until this basement reno is done. My 3 main PC's are packed up until this reno is over :/

EDIT..... @CapnPotato Let us know if this has worked for you. If your FPS are low unless you do the clean boot then something in your PC programs is making your game act up and needs to be turned off when going into game.

Another issue I've run across is that I get a huge FPS drop in Battlefront when I use regular full screen mode (1920 x1200 for me) - I get about 10 FPS period. I have to use windowed full screen in order for it to work properly and be playable. You may want to try that if you haven't yet.
