Game executables have green pause icons

Star Wars Battlefront is yet another game to be plagued with this green pause button bug/glitch/menace. For some reason it seems that lots of my games all share this fugly green pause icon. http://imgur.com/a/wlTrf

It seems to be exclusive to Frostbite games as it has plagued me over the past few years on Battlefield 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield 1, Dragon Age Inquisition and Plants vs Zombies. Reinstalling the games does nothing and it seems to be hit and miss if the icons appear or not.

My current installation of Battlefield 4 actually seems to have the correct icon. The one I had for Dragon Age Inquisition yesterday was also fine but I made the horrible decision of reinstalling it on my SSD just now. This gave me yet another green pause icon.

I know that you can simply change the icons for your shortcuts on the desktop but not the actual executables. This might just seem like a non-issue but this has legit been bothering me for years now. Googling also indicates that others have experienced this but I haven't been able to find any solutions other than just changing the shortcut icons.

What's weird is that when choosing the icon for your shortcut you can easily find the correct one for BF4, DA:I and SW:BF. These are found in their respective game libraries (default should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\[NAME OF THE GAME]) and then by going into the folder "__Installer" and finding the file "GDFBinary_en_US.dll". These do not apply during the installation and the horrible green pause icon is instead applied.

I have experienced this on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Any help whatsoever would be appreciated as this is just about to drive me mad at this point (if it hasn't already). Thanks.

    If you have any issues with SWBF please make a new topic about the issues you are having and what kind of steps you have tried to solve it.

    For the "green pause icons" it is related to having windows in a different language that is not English and can cause the game icon to be a "green pause icons".

  • Also having the exact same issue with all Frostbite games I've installed so far.
    Everything is up to date software wise and even tried reinstalling the games without any success

    I have found out that when I output via HDMI to my TV, the icons appear correctly, but when switching to my monitor that uses DisplayPort I get the green pause icons...how peculiar!

    Changing resolutions around does not seem to have any impact so it would seem to me that it has something to do with HDMI/DP output or something with the monitor/tv itself.

    Cheers

    @SnailfistX

    That sounds strange indeed. It so happens that I am also using DisplayPort. Although I am fairly sure that I was using HDMI for my previous monitor and I definitely had the problem back then too.

    Where do you type shell:game. im kinda lost here

  • @EA_Archi Any updates on this issue? It seems to be related to HDMI/DisplayPort. I am using DisplayPort and the issue only started appearing after I got a new monitor, which is connected through DP.
