Why can’t Cal have the option for a red lightsaber since he and Cere have one of Trilla’s lightsabers? Can’t he take the crystal out of Trilla’s lightsaber and put it in his own? Therefore he can have a red blade.
@Kakarot666666666What! What kind of example would you set for the younglings, running around with a saber like Darth Vader's? Next thing you know, one of your pupils would be burning down your academy and trying to create a new empire, and you'd end up on some island someplace wondering how you got yourself into this mess!
(Just kidding. 🙂 Clever thinking, Kakarot! Red sabers are associated with the dark side, though, and Cal's a definite Jedi. I wonder why we tend to associate the color red with evil, like red, glowing eyes or red warning lights?)
Good point about Superman and Spider-Man. In fact, seems like a lot of main characters are red. I do get where you're coming from, though.
From a story-based standpoint, it does make sense that Cal can't use Trilla's crystal since his psychometry would probably incapacitate him like it did on Bogano, and even if it didn't, he might have some moral issues with using it intentionally. I don't remember specifically, but isn't there some lore in the new canon about the kyber crystals being alive and turning red only when tortured? Cere probably wouldn't have used the saber if she'd had another choice, but then again, she was already toeing the line a little.

I think it'd be cool if he took the crystal, purified it, and got a white lightsaber crystal, like how Ahsoka got her white lightsabers.
