Honest Game Feedback

G'day peoples,

I'm hoping I can get some honest feedback from everyone here about this game as (I know I'm about to get some hate lol) I have never watched Star Wars or played any of the games. My younger brother is pretty big into Star Wars and last Christmas I got him a copy of Battlefront 2 which went down pretty well but after a fairly short period of time, he told me it was a little disappointing and hasn't picked it up since.

I want to know from perspectives here whether this would make a good gift or is the reception to the game similar to that of Battlefront 2? Again I have no bias either way as I simply don't know these games, I just want to make sure I actually get him something that will have a longer play life than 2 months. I know he loves Knights of The Old Republic and would love a remake, so is this anything similar to that?

Again any feedback into the depth of this game would be appreciated, thanks in advanced

  • @Real_Noobalishus the game is 100% nothing like Battlefront 2. Completely different genres. No controversy surrounding this one. This is a single player story driven game with Dark Souls-esque combat.

I guess your best bet would be to find out if he likes Souls games, Bloodborne, Sekiro etc. If he does, then this game will probably be up his alley.

The thing is there's no way he'll play it longer than 2 months... the game is roughly 30-40 hours to 100%.
  • If he liked Knights of The Old Republic for story he will probably like this one to for story focused game but gameplay (combat and skills) is difrent then Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic.

And so like the person above me already told you: you should be asking him if he likes games like Dark Souls stile games that have challenging combat.

But then again you can ajuste games difficulty here more so he can enjoi story and he can raise difficulty later on when he gets juse to combat. Best option would be to "coincidentally" show him some game play or wach reviews and see what he thinks of it and then decide if you will buy it for christmas surprise gift.

I really enjoy the game, but will say that in it's current state it's also a bit frustrating.

Depending on the Difficulty you choose, it's either a Dark Souls like experience (actually more Sekiro than the other Souls games, albeit with an unfortunately less refined and less responsive combat system) on the hardest difficulty or a rather easy Star Wars action adventure, think: the new Tomb Raider games or Uncharted, but with a light saber.

It feels great, the story is fine (albeit a matter of taste), the level design superb, exploration is very engaging.

There are some very strange issues (possibly design choices), though, some very bad AI issues (where enemies consistently will not follow out of an area or even through an open door, stand right in front of you, not a meter away, and then go "I've lost sight of the enemy," then turn and walk away), and the graphics range from jaw droppingly gorgeous to "Uh... What? Seriously?"-bad. There are movement issues, weird level restrictions, some cheap enemy tactics, and rare instances of very questionable gameplay mechanics.

The main thing that frustrates me is the inconsistency.

As mentioned, the exploration is great, the "rewards" for it, though, I find rather lacking (70% of the secret collectibles are cosmetic options for your lightsaber, none of which you really see in the game except for the blade's color, and you don't even get a little XP for finding those).

Sometimes enemies can jump, sometimes they're stuck in front of a 50 centimeter gap. Sometimes they drop 10 meters off a cliff down to another accessible area and lose a bit of health, sometimes they drop 2 meters and die.

    And the list goes on.

In closing, it's a great adventure game that should've been postponed for another six or eight months of polishing to make it truly amazing.

But yes, I'm finicky about what other people might call little things. And I am enjoying it quite a lot, playing on the hardest difficulty.

If your brother likes Star Wars and 3rd person action games, whether Soulslikes or more casual fare, where your hero is not an invincible killing machine with recharging health, and won't mind spending as much time fighting as climbing and exploring, this will do fine, I think.

But if he hates games like the new Tomb Raiders or Uncharted, then this might not be the thing, despite it being a Star Wars game.

  • @Real_Noobalishus Short version: This game is really, really good.

    Slightly longer version:
    - It respects lore
    - It's single player only and has no microtransactions whatsoever
    - It's one compact story that fits very well into the StarWars Universe.
    - Gameplay is great! Fighting feels great, exploration feels great!
    - I've played almost every single StarWars game in existence and after playing the Single Player campaign in Battlefront 2, which is good, but much too short, I deinstalled as well. Not for me, though I really love StarWars.
    - Fallen Order is DIFFERENT. It's not even in the ballpark. It's just a really good StarWars game. 100% a good present in my opinion.
  • Thank you for all the info, based on what you've all told me this sounds like it should go down well as a Christmas Present 🙂

To answer you @jmordreddev and @SapperMorghy my brother loves the Dark Souls games, Bloodbourne, etc so if you say it's got a similar playstyle to those then, this sounds like something he'll enjoy.
