AWings used to get picked off fairly quickly (if they weren't flying well) under the heavy rotary laser fire of an accurate TIE Bomber, but gone are those days.
Now it takes an Interceptor or a very maneuverable (properly loaded out) Fighter to take out another Interceptor.
I agree that the AWing seems quite a bit better than the TIE/IN Interceptor.
I fly just about everything except Support, and even though I like to use them (especially for Fleet Modes), I think the biggest problem with Interceptors is the Rockets. Either the quantity should be reduced, or maybe the firing rate should be slowed down. But, I feel the extreme Bomber NERFs have upset the balance of the ships more than it has helped, so I'm skeptical of making any more drastic changes actually solving anything.
The Awing is not better than the TIE INT. When properly flown, the TIE Int is superior in everything except a head on joust.
