mission 7 infinite starfighter spawn

What were you doing when the bug occurred? Step by Step detail is helpful. Escorted the convoy to where it needed to be. Objective at the top says "Escort the Convoy: 5850" Lost 1 of the ships, still have 2 left. Waves of Bombers are spawned and I get an objective to destroy them. I do. The convoy gets to the end of the playable area. They pass through the asteroids/storm to the other side but I cannot. It tells me to turn around. 2nd Objective says to Destroy outstanding starfighters. I kill wave after wave of starfighters and they just never end. I kill at least 50 over 45 minutes, and nothing changes and the imperial starship keeps launching new sets of them. Going near the imperial starship usually ends with me being caught in the tractor beam and exploding. I restart from the last checkpoint where the 2 remaining convoys are in front of me and the bomber sorties are coming, and it's the same over and over. The mission will never complete.
Where did this issue occur? Please include menu name or in game location. Mission 7 near the end of the mission? I think it is the last objective.

What happens when the bug occurs? Mission never completes. I am stuck in an infinite loop.
What do you expect to see? I don't know how many starfighters i need to "mop up", but 50 seems excessive. I expect to kill 5-10 and then have the game move on.

What components were you using? Normal load out except dumbfire missiles.

My problem is a gameplay issue, not graphical/hardware related.
