Network - Game using ports not listed?! **Solved => Full Port List in Post #5!**

Hello together,

I just bought Battlefront today and I can't get it to work in online-mode.

When I start the game, it says "Connecting..." in the upper left corner and after a few seconds it says "You are offline. Connect?". When I click on that it says "Connecting..." again and after a few seconds again there is a message popping up saying like "Connection problem - check your internet connection".

I am using a 25 Mbit VDSL connection by TCom and I have opened the following ports concerning to this site: https://help.ea.com/en/article/online-ports-star-wars-battlefront/

UDP 3659, 9565, 9570, 9000-9999

TCP 3569, 9946, 9988, 10000 - 29999, 42100-42200

No other game is making trouble online. Concerning my firewall-logs, there are several connections which were refused, like TCP 42230 or UDP 7776, when I open the game. As soon as I open these ports up, the game tries to connect using different ports TCP/UDP and giving me the error again. All those ports are not listed on the official help-site above.

Which ports have to be opened in addition to those mentioned above?

Disableing the firewall is not possible due to various reasons (home-office going through it).

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Regards,

StarGeneral

I solved the problem myself. There are various ports in addition to those mentioned by EA which have to be opened.

The full port list  is attached - after opening the following ports, everything is working for me!

The help-page from EA should be really updated with those...

@Sgt_Forrester: After opening the ports mentioned above I had no problems with high letency or lags.

  • This article might be worth a read: https://help.ea.com/en/article/connection-issues-with-origin/

It also mentions the ports required for Origin

This guide is meant to help you either solve your problem or create a proper thread explaining your problem so people have a chance helping you.

Connection Problems can be caused by roughly three things:

    1. You - your hardware, your software, your settings, those you live with or just plain you
    2. The Middleman - your internet service provider (ISP), the parts of the internet between you and EA
    3. EA - EA's software, hardware, human error, DDOS attacks, lack of available bandwidth etc.

Hardware always eventually breaks, software can always get corrupted, so everything will eventually go down at some point.

    Now lets get to it!

Before blaming everybody else, make sure you have tried to see if you are the problem. While you check if you are the problem make sure to list down all the things you have checked and how you have checked as this will make it 1000 times easier for others to help you should you need help.

Things you should always try before doing anything else:

    • Log out, restart, log back in.
    • Power off and remove the power cord from all your networking equipment and the system you are gaming on and wait 5 minutes. It doesn't matter that all other games and software work fine, an error can easily affect only 1 game or application while the rest still works.
    • Check EA's websites and communication channels for service messages - http://help.ea.com and EA's Twitter accounts are a good place to start. Also check if others have reported similar issues in forums before posting there.
    • Be patient. Most connection problems are temporary. Do the power off step mentioned above and go get a drink and see if things are fine before posting anything.

Things you should always mention if you create a post/thread about your issue:

    • Your platform (PC, PS4, XB1 etc.)
    • Detailed list of what and how you have tried to solve the issue, including the things mentioned in the "Things you should always try before doing anything else" section above
    • Details about your network setup (cable/wifi? speeds? routers? etc.)
    • Have it worked before? When did it stop working? Did you do something before it stopped working?
    • Are you having trouble with anything else that could be connected?
    • Is anything/anyone else using the internet while this happens?

Issues here are hard to fix but they normally fix themselves. If you are a more advanced computer user and want to help fixing the issue faster consider adding trace-routes to your posts about connection issues, how to do this can be seen here: http://help.ea.com/en/article/ping-traceroute-and-uo-trace/

If EA is having issues and you have checked that YOU aren't the problem there's a few things you can do to help expedite the issue:

    • Mention your country and ISP
    • Help rule out you as the problem by providing the information requested in 1. You + 2. The Middleman
    • Don't make duplicate posts, do you see a post about the same issue use the "me too button" and post in that thread.

/ Thanks for reading this guide by Carbonic, feel free to PM me about improvements to the guide (not about connection problems) 😉

  • Hello Carbonic,

here are the answers to your guide:

    1. My platform: PC

    2. Network setup: cable, 25 Mbit VDSL, Fritzbox 7390 Router

    3. Origin ports are free - all other origin games & downloads are working fine

    4. No one else is using my internet connection

    5. Country: Germany, ISP: Deutsche Telekom

I tried to open more ports today. I opened up the port 42230 because of it being stuck in the firewall logs when opening the game (even if it is not mentioned in the official port list). Restarted the game - now the port 44325 is stuck, both TCP. Opening port 44325, restarting the game, now it is TCP 44375. I could be doing this for hours as it seems...

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Hey StarGeneral89,

I dont have entirely the same issue, but I also experience very high latency peaks while playing and my ISP is also Dt. Telekom. So maybe there is a problem with them? Have you tried doing a traceroute?

I had no problems playing on the weekend, the laggs only occured yesterday. I will contact my ISP this evening, even though I don't expect them to help me. As always they will say it is a problem on my side 😉

    Cheers,

    Forrester

    Thanks for reporting this @St4rGeneral

I'll make sure EA sees this post and strongly suggest they investigate these ports to see if the port guide needs to be updated.

I added a little update in the list above... there were still some ports missing, preventing me from playing 😉
