No Sound in VR

Using an Oculus Quest, and when I toggle to VR I lose all sound. Checked my windows sound device, and the Oculus is selected, as it gets automatically changed like normal. I cna hear all other sounds as normal outside of the game, but as soon as I'm in VR mode in Squadrons I lose all audio.

I'm assuming the game itself is not switching audio devices? But I don't see a way to manually select my Oculus.

  • Thanks for the suggestions all! I managed to figure out the problem on my end.

So, as you might know, the DS4 (PS4) controller gets picked up as an audio device by windows. I already knew that, and made sure that my Windows Sound Settings where what I wanted them to be (Oculus), but it still didn't work.

I think Pulser47 had a similar problem where the game seems to have its own Sound Device setting hidden in the background that overrides the Windows default setting. If I wait to turn my controller on _after_ the game has loaded, the game picks up the controller as the audio device, no matter what Windows says, and will actually SAVE that setting, even through game restarts.

Solution - I had to turn off the controller while the game was running (Which immediately switched the audio to my Oculus), shut down the game, turn on the controller, then start the game with the controller turned on already.

  • We had this issue a few times on our two copies.  It turns out that it is easy for the SteamVR app to overlay the game and that silences the audio of the game.   If you have no audio, peek out the headset and see if something is there and click on the app to return focus.

  • Yeah, I had this issue too.  I had to click the game on my monitor with my mouse and then my quest picked up the audio.

  • I have the same issue, i‘m running the game via origin. So steam is not active. I’m using an oculus an in that moment I switch to VR all sound is gone

Starts up all nice and crisp in my 7.1 headphones, (game on Origin) and then as soon as vr game launches, it defaults to rift s crappy sound, even when everything is set to my headphones, doesn't look like anything has set to rift s headphones by default switching either........as usual EA have public alpha and beta and still screw things up...........

As i posted in reply to a similar thread, sound in my headset ok, but as soon as vr starts, rift s headphones take over, and in all settings on desktop and in game all point to my 7.1 headphones still as default !?

  • For Rift S, i went into settings-headset and changed to windows default, rather than rift s headset option, started the game then toggled VR (make sure you are running borderless screen) and sound was in my glorious 7.1 headphones and not the rifts tin cans. EA will no doubt let the community solve their problems for them as usual 😠

  • I have this issue Using and Oculus Quest but im on Keyboard and mouse, so I dont have DS4 or any controller plugged in but i still have the issue....

  • Using the Oculus Quest on the Origin launcher, audio cuts out whenever I toggle VR. I saw other threads where the solution is either with Steam or controller related, but only when using a DS4 controller. I'm on Origin with an Xbox controller, and I can't find any reason for the error.
