Please get rid of leading cursor control

Please enable Mouse Look Controls, this game is completely unplayable on mouse. I do not own any control peripherals besides m/k, so I had to refund the game.

I've been playing videogames my entire life, but this flight control system made me legitimately question whether I had a motion disability. I couldn't figure out why I kept crashing into walls in the tutorial until I looked up what was wrong. Why is it not like Rebel Strike or Rogue Squadron or Battlefronts? My eyes keep defaulting to the cursor direction instead of the crosshairs by reflex, I literally cannot make my brain do what it wants me to. Please, devs, fix this... Why would the devs go and change an input consensus that has been there since the dark ages of gaming? How did they think this was a good idea? Did no one play the game before release??

Tons of people on steam forums are saying the same thing.

Here's someone elses reply from steam that is what I think: "You don't balance control inputs. That's the players direct connection to the game lol. Sloppy controls kills games. I want to play at 100% with my preferred input like everyone else can with theirs."

If other peripheral devices are inferior, then quite simply they are inferior. That is a problem for the developer to address. If you sell a product as being functional with a given set of assumptions (use of KB and M for instance) yet make the product unusable under said advertised parameters, well then customers will do what I just did and hundreds before me and request refunds on a faulty product misleadingly advertised.

Game is excellent in every other aspect but controls are BIG problem and  this is evidence!

  • I agree. Worse controls ever. Especially that there has been better controls used for over 20 years in other games.

I understand the developers intentions, but they should at least give us the option to play how we want. I never play multiplayer anyway, and never will.

AT LEAST, disable the appearing cursor... I don’t need it to tell me the direction I’m going...

  • I hate to be that guy, but this needs to be said: unfortunately the solution to this and many other problems in modern PC games involves letting your wallet speak for you.

Never pre-order - indeed the whole concept of pre-orering a digital product is absurd; unless we're talking about a Collector's Edition with physical toys etc. they're never going to run out of any game, so throwing money at a company before a game is released is ridiculous and counterproductive.

And don't buy into the hype and get a game in the first few days/weeks of its release.

Once the publisher/developer has your money, they don't have much incentive to listen, especially as console gamers typically vastly outnumber PC gamers - so in cases like this where a change will benefit PC gamers but anger many console gamers, guess which group EA will serve?

I want to buy and play Squadrons. But I haven't, and I won't, until this is fixed. If enough people said and did this more often for all PC games, we'd stand a much better chance of being heard.

Geez l just got this game and I thought I was alone.

I played the ancient Xwing and Tie Fighter and have been an experienced game player.

I read through the thread and heard some different voices.

We can boil it down to 2 issues:

    1) The developer mimic the mouse control with a joystick. So that it becomes "point and follow", some people hate it, but I am OK with it.

    But the real problem is

    2) They were so "thoughtful" to make the mouse cursor visible, which is so confusing, especially when the fight is busy and the screen is full of indicators.

I stopped playing at the mission where the player needs to run a Y Wing along the trenches to bomb. That this mission is almost unplayable. So I Googled to see if there's a way to turn the cursor off and ended up here. BUT, it's been 2 years, game developers you haven't even listened to the players!

All we asked is an option to turn off the mouse cursor during the flight, as simple as that.

The other issue I have is the Roll control, I can't map it with the  mouse X, but I can with the game pad. I forget how it was in X Wing or Tie Fighter. But I remember I didn't have any issue with the controls.

This game is great to be honest, except for the bad controls. I am going to ask for a refund. Will buy back when it's fixed.

  • This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with Star Wars Squadron, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
