Re: PC shuts down hard only when running starwarBF

ati was primary, nvidia backup. could play BF on the nvidia gt 640 for awhile then it started crashing too. the ATI had some bad display ports as well, i just never RMA'd for that.

HDD is a Kingston SSD, maybe 2 years old

i also just did some more testing and i can run in windowed mode and im good, fullscreen crashed the computer. The PC is still somewhat responsive, i hit the reset button and after about 4 seconds it will restart.

but as the other guy pointed out, my PSU is over 5 years old so its probably time for a new one.

If you are able to run in windowed mode, but not fullscreen, this makes me think you are at or below minimum specs for your GPU.  What GPU are you currently running?

    ati sapphire r9 280x

    core i7 920 at 2.91G

    12G Gskill DDR3

    all latest drivers

attached is my temps in game, settings 1080p, res scale 108%, no vsync, ultra, except light and shadows on high, AO off

    air cooling

been playing this since release and no problems until the latest update.

  • just got this error. i guess this could be caused by the PSU not giving enough power to the graphics card. it does happen in all games now, not just origin. only happens in games, no errors anywhere else. did memtest all sticks passed on 1 pass each. board is a sabertooth x58

you'll note the old drivers so its happening with all driver versions.

so i guess all thats left is the HDD, PSU, and the board.

Try what @Carbonic posted and do a full uninstall of your old drivers.  Also, make sure you are downloading the correct drivers, because you stated you have an R9 280x, but your screenshots show you have a HD 7970, so you seem to not know exactly what is in your PC.

And yes, if your PSU is old, it could be that as well.

@2042suxsh1t you have a completely different problem, one that probably is there because you use drivers that are 2 years old.
