Ya just to give you a nice comparison. 

This is the Old Original MS DoS Tie Fighter Game. Notice the Hud while still showing the entire Design takes as little space as possible in order to maintain the Hexagon Window.

Now look the Modern Version.

Notice that 1/3 of the Screen is just the Rim.  and another 1/5th of the remaining screen is the WIndow Bracing and 1/6th of the Screen is the Central Control Panel.
